    3. Mara - The three of us here << http://small-stuff.com/FRENCH/DNA/tree6.htm >> have at least a 24/25 y-chromosome allele marker match. Charlie French (Test #F13919) needs to find a father for Samuel French (1793-1861). If 1.3* JEREMIAH FRENCH, b. 1759 [1] in NJ had another son named Samuel following the birth of 2.5* WILLIAM FRENCH [1], b. 3 Jun 1790 in Northumberland, who of us would be surprised? It fits beautifully! And Charlie and all members of Chart #179 would probably connect to JACOB OFASSINGTON - As do all members of FFA Chart #1 - And, I think, Chart #2 as well. - Scott ----- Original Message ----- From: Mara French To: List French List Sent: Friday, February 09, 2007 5:58 PM Subject: [FRENCH] New Chart #179 The French Family Assn website has been updated to add Chart #179. http://www.frenchfamilyassoc.com/FFA/ Jeremiah French, 1759, of NJ, PA, and NY Chart #179 begins in the 1750s in NJ, and then to the town of Middlebury, Tioga Co., PA. No data further back has been found to date, but this line remained basically in Pennsylvania. From there, the family moved to Northumberland Co., PA and to Owego and Horseshead in Chemung Co., NY. But some members of the family returned to Middlebury, Tioga Co., PA. Other members of the family moved to Port Alleganey, McKean Co., PA and to Roulette, Potter Co., PA. Others moved to Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY; Steuben Co., NY and Shamokin, Bradford Co., PA. Other townships in NY: Erin, Wellsville, Elmira,Troopsburg, East Aurora, and Buffalo. Other townships in PA: Fishing Creek, Wellsboro, Little Marsh, Delniar, Port Alleganey, Blossburg, and Clara. The men in this line were mostly war soldiers, farmers (honey, lumber), Justices of the Peace, town clerks, auditors, school directors, school teachers, general store keepers, writers, bookkeepers, and glassmakers. They were Methodists. Surnames: You may notice that some of these names are also seen on FFA Chart #1, #2, and #5, but these names are not seen until the 4th Generation. French, Churchill, Donshea, Hopper, Tryon, Martin, Hazen, VanGorder, Gildersleeve, Willis, Willetts, Perrin, Secor/Sicaird, Titus, Colley, Waller, Field, McNair, Boucher, Monk, Shaff, Smith, Williams, Palmer, Brown, Calgrove or Colegrove or Colgrove, Niles, Andrews, West, Willoughby, Morey, Donshea or Dunshie, Howlett, Doane, Hawley, Luce, Deer, Roupe. Please advise me of corrections, deletions, additions, etc. Perhaps this line will eventually tie in to one of the NJ lines. Thanks to Marion Scherer and Milton L. French Jr., for all your help. 3. Hi Scott, I see that Samuel was b. 1793 in Boston, and I would not imagine that the Chart #179 family ever went to Massachusetts at all. Samuel would have had to be born from Jeremiah's second wife. Also, there are absolutely no Samuels in this line, so there has to be more evidence than guessing. In what city in Chemung Co. did Samuel die? In Horseheads? Maybe research Chemung Co. as well as the Gildersleeve family. 3. Hey Charlie - Jump in - This exchange is for you. Hey Mara - Of course we need more evidence than guessing. And a guess it was. It's my way - - Guess, find a contradiction then guess again. But knowing the certainty of the convergence of the ancestor's of Charlie, Jim and I meeting within sixteen generations (http://small-stuff.com/FRENCH/DNA/tree6.htm) and knowing that Charlie has been stuck on Samuel for years, I think exploring any connection to JACOB OF ASSINGTON, for Charlie, is worth a try. So -- Do we know the parents of: 1.3* JEREMIAH FRENCH, b. 1759 [1] in NJ [20] [22] or 1765 [2] or 1762 [3] ? Or, if we knew when JEREMIAH1.3's first wife died (after 3 Jun 1790 would fit nicely) or when he married his second wife, or anything about either; we might be able to show that JEREMIAH1.3 did indeed have another child with Hannah other than JEREMIAH2.6 -- Samuel? - Children of Jeremiah and Hannah (Gildersleeve) French, 1.3 2.6 JEREMIAH FRENCH, JR., b. 1792 in Owego, Tioga Co., NY, d. 16 Nov 1847 [2], only one year after his father died in 1846. He may have married a Charlotte VanGorder in Tioga Co., NY [1]. http://www.frenchfamilyassoc.com/FFA/CHARTS/Chart179.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: Mara French To: french@rootsweb.com Cc: Charlie French ; List French List Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2007 12:40 AM Subject: Re: [FRENCH] New Chart #179 Hi Scott, I see that Samuel was b. 1793 in Boston, and I would not imagine that the Chart #179 family ever went to Massachusetts at all. 3. Scott, take a look at this page regarding "a" Hannah Gildersleeve: http://www.familyorigins.com/users/b/l/o/David-A-Blocher-WA/ FAMO2-0001/d86203.htm This Hannah went to Horseshead, Chemung Co., NY, and she was born in NJ, yet she married a "Breese", not a French.
