Dear Listers, I have a Joseph French, b. Apr 1827 in ?, m. 15 Feb 1862 in Thomson, IL to Nancy Whitney b. 5 Oct 1825 Java Village, NY; d. 27 July 1927 (aged 101, 9 mos. 22 days!!!) in Thomson, IL. This Joseph French died 12 Mar 1902 in Thomson, IL. They had three children: William (Willie) died young; Melvin (Mellie) died young; and Louisa. I have no information on Joseph French's birthplace or his parentage. Have some indication he may have been from southern Illinois, Kentucky or Davenport, Iowa, but nothing concrete. Don't know if this helps anyone or not, but I'll add it to the mix. He does not appear related to my great-great-grandfather Asa Mason French, b. 25 Nov 1801, Windsor County, Vermont. Hope this adds to growing stack of information on the various Joseph Frenches and hopefully they all get identified.
