Mildred, You don't give us much information to go on. Do you know Ezra's father's name or where Ezra was born? My Frenches went from Billerica, MA, to Cambridge, VT, before migrating to northwest Illinois. My 2nd great-grandfather Asa Mason French was born in Cambridge, but his father Jacob was born in Billerica in 1771. His grandfather (Jacob's father) was also named Jacob and had a son Ezra who was born in Billerica in 1746. I'm sure this is not your Ezra, but the families (at least my French family) tended to repeat the names in succeeding generations. Henry Hazen's book "History of Billerica" is my source. I do not know if it is completely accurate, but it is so far the best information I have. I have not checked the census records. The book shows that this Ezra died a few days after birth, but that does not mean that one or another of is siblings may have moved to VT and continued the name usage. I guess what I'm suggesting is that Billerica, MA, may be a good starting point for you in your search. I looked through the book quickly, but didn't find anything, but other records, births, deaths, census, etc. may yield the information you are seeking. Hazen's book is available through Higginson Book Company of Salem, MA, or through the Billerica Historical Society's web site. Good luck in your search. Jonothan Whitney wrote asking for more information on my French family. When the French family came to Vermont, they settled in Chittenden, VT. Ezra was born in 1800 in VT and married Margaret Woodward. Their son, Daniel French was born in 1828 and appears in St. Lawrence County, NY in the 1860 census. Daniel was married to a Jane M., who was born in 1827. Daniel and Jane also appear in the 1880 census in Essex County, NY, and Ezra is living with them at the age of 80. In this census he states that his father and mother were born in Mass. Is there anything more I can add? Mildred in WI
