If you all don't mind me joining in the conversation, this is one question I can answer -- this John French is the son of Edward French and Jane Banta. Edward was the son of John French and Mary Lees Nield, son of Henry. My line is from John and Mary Lees Nield French and Edward was a brother to George Washington French which is also my family's line. Hope this helps. (I still live in Mercer County.) Dianna, Maybe you can help me. My gr, gr, gr grandparents were Charity Banta and George French. I have always thought he was a grandson of Henry French but can't figure out who his father is - thought probably John but not sure. Do you have any information? George and Charity had a daughter, Perlina Augusta French who married James Harvey Prewitt and their daughter, Laurie Lee Prewitt married William Alexander Weldon. My grandmother was Georgia Weldon who married James Pollard of Garrard Co. Thanks Donna Ryan
Donna -- I can help!!! George is also my direct line though my line is from Isabelle Burton Figg, his second wife. George Washington French was the son of John French and Mary Lees Nield. The estate settlement papers are in the Boyle County Court Clerk's Office in Danville. Boyle County Courthouse, Settlement Book 3, Page 340 -- Settlement of the Estate of John French. June 3, 1871. W. J. Durham, Administrator of the Estate of John French. Distribution by Administrator to: Mrs. Fletcher, George French, Elizabeth Bonta, Ed French, John French, Mary A. Ludwick, and W. H. French. It lists advancements to: Emily Fletcher, George French, E. Bonta, Edward French, Mary Ann Ludwick, W.H. French, and John French. Of course, as you know, John was Henry's son. It took me forever to connect this because I looked at Henry's son George in Indiana/Illinois first as his father. His sister, Elizabeth French, married David Banta who I believe to be Charity's brother. His sister, Emily, who married James Fletcher is also buried in the Nield/French Family Cemetery. His brother Edward married Jane Banta. His brother John married Rachel Banta and he is the brother referenced in the obituary as still living in Missouri. His sister Mary Ann married James Ludwick. There were certainly a number of "double" cousins as a result of the marriages between the Frenches and Bantas. Hope this helps.
