The Thomas French I am interested in was born in Berkley, Bristol Co., MA., 1760. He marr. 1)Lydia (---) but I don't know where. A history resource I have (but can't lay my hands on) stated that Thomas French, with a large family, came from Vermont in late 1790's to Cortland County, (Cinncinatus). One of his children was Calvin W. whom he later sold some land to. I do not know the make-up of the so-called "large family". Thomas and Calvin and some family members are buried in the Texas Valley Cemetery in Marathon, Cortland County, NY and Thomas' gravestone records that he was a native of Berkley, Ma., that he died in 1831. I have the feeling that Thomas, leaving Berkley, Ma, came to NY via Vermont but cannot find where he may have touched down in Vt. for any length of time. It's a long trail to retrace.
