    1. Re: [FRENCH-L] Another French line to consider
    2. Bob, I have seen Thomas French and an Arthur French on a list of settlers who were living in the Wyoming Valley in 1771 - the list was prepared by Zebulon Butler of the Susquehanna Company. I'll have to fish it out of my notes - there wasn't much on the list - just the two names. I've always thought that my Frenchs were with the Susquehanna Company and took part in the Wyoming Valley events as my Churchills, one of my allied lines, were and as you probably are already aware, there was an Abraham VanGorder who was killed during the Wyoming Valley Massacre. I know there are some other lines that I believe were there as well, but can't recall without my notes. I'll have to get back to you on that. I have been trying to collect as much as I can on the Susquehanna Company and the Wyoming Valley. Unfortunately, I don't have anything more on my Jeremiah French and his wife Margarete VanGorder, however I do have quite a bit from there on down. I've always wondered if Moses French, Sr. and my third great grandfather, William French were named for some of Jeremiah's ancestors - perhaps a father, grandfather or uncle. I believe that Jeremiah's ancestors were originally from one of the New England States, probably Mass or CT. Who are your VanGorders? I visited the Buffalo and Erie County Library last summer and copied a VanGorder research file that had been compiled by Greenleaf S. VanGorder, an attorney in Buffalo, back in the early 1900s. I copied what was in the file, which was set up just like a legal case file. If you are interested - I could mail a copy of it to you. Unfortunately, I couldn't pin down my Margarete VanGorder or her father Jacob. I have entered my French information to Family Tree Maker 7.0, but don't have anything online yet and don't have a clue as to how to attach it to email. I will be happy to mail a copy of the genealogy report to you as well. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you for your email. Sincerely, Marion Scherer
