I believe in my last message, I misspoke, and want to clear something up. The cost of $24 is for two lists. What Rootsweb requires is, in order to own a list, you must be a Rootsweb Sponsor, which is $24 per year, but with a Sponsorship, you are allowed two lists. They, also, rely on contributions, without which they couldn't keep all this going. The servers alone cost tens of thousands of dollars each, and they have several to handle all the mail. They tried to keep the operation noncommercial, but last year, finally, accepted corporate sponsors. That is why you will see ads on their pages in the archives.
