The Bureau of Land Management Records has added approximately 2 million names to the online searchable database. The records don't include every state in the Nation, but do have a good number of the states listed. You can check by state or the entire database. Also, document images are online and you can obtain certified copies through BLM. I entered the surname French for the entire database and came back with over 10000 hits!
