Ralph, I believe that your Joseph who was born in 1812 must have been related to my William M. French who was killed by a notorious gambler in 1857 in Jasper County. William's wife, Christian, and several of his children(James Edward, and Harriet Frances )state in one census that William was born in S.C. I know he married Christian McInnis in 1842 in Dale County and had three children when he moved away from Dale and then moved to Mississippi.. He owned land in Dale County, Al. and his wife's people lived near by in Barbour or Dale Counties. Why did he move to Jasper County, Mississippi? I have found through Michael French who lived not so very far from Jasper County, that Frenches lived there in 1850. They must have been his relatives. There was a Jessie French who lived in Alabama in Pike County, Al. in 1910. What do you think? My grandfather was Angus LaFayette French, a son of William M. French.
