I am looking for information on the Arthur FRENCH family. Arthur FRENCH and his wife Mary came to California in the early 1850's. The 1860 sinking of the Steamship NORTHERNER took the life of Arthur. It left San Francisco on January 4, 1860 and sank off of Cape Mendocino on its way to Portland on Jan. 5th. Arthur was First Officer under Captain Dall. He was found and taken to SF for burial. The 1860 census of San Francisco shows wife Mary, age 25, a son Arthur, age 7, a daughter Mary, age 5, another daughter Lizzie, age 4 and another person, a Physician Ryan (Hyan) J. age 35. The daughter Mary, married Robert A. Douglass in 1872. The daughter Lizzie A, married Capt. Loring G. Emerson in 1883. I have no information on the son, Arthur or the Mother Mary. Any information, or perhaps even a clue would be very much appreciated. The daughter Mary is my Great Grandmother and have little information on her. I do not know where she is buried, or her date of death altho we believe it was shortely after 1875 when her son Robert A. Douglass was born. Thank you for your time. Regards, Dona windydona@saber.net
