I recently came across a pension record for James KLINGLESMITH, alias James FRENCH, widow listed is Catherine FRENCH. I can't make out all of the record but I do know it is from KY. Can anyone tell me why an alias is listed? I have been seeing quite a few Klinglesmiths lately in my Nelson County, KY research of the FRENCH (James, Ignatius, Martin, James, Martin) and wonder what the relationship may be to my line.
