Hi all, I'm new to your list. I have a French/Wheeler connection, I think, but am not sure: History of Addison County, VT, by HP Smith, 1886; D. Mason & Publishers, Syracuse, NY; page 375: "Wheeler French located in Addison in 1833 and his father, Nathaniel, was one of the early settlers in New Haven {my note: CT?}. George, son of Wheeler, now resides here, one of the ex-representatives of the town in the General Assembly." Wheeler French b, 1798 VT, d. 1875 VT, married 1826 to Mary Champlin, b. 1802 VT, d. 1877 VT. They were the parents of the above George Wheeler French, Harriet, Mary and Emily French. Mary Champlin French 1834-1914, one of the aforementioned daughters, married the Hon. Cyrus Walton Strong of VT fame, which Dwight's History of the Strong Family corroborates, and they ultimately ended up in CA at their deaths. They were my great-great grandparents. I do not know who Wheeler French's father, Nathaniel was, nor where he came from. In the 1850 census, Wheeler has a George Champion (could be Champlin?) age 15 b. Canada living with the family. So there might be a Canadian connection. Anyone have any of these people in their lines or does any of it look familiar?
