    1. Re: [FRENCH-L] FRENCH FAMILY ASSOC Charts
    2. I was a member of the French Family Association for about 8 years. I shared all of my material on the Hugh French line with the editor. During this time period I received probably three issues of the newsletter The French Line. That is not even annually much less a quarterly. I have paid a total of $30.00 in membership fees over time and decided not to renew when the last renewal came. Several years ago I asked for a financial statement regarding the association and she agreed but said it was mixed in with her personal finance and asked if I wanted her income tax statement? I declined of course. I realize in the past she has spent a great deal of time compiling the "charts." The research was hers sometimes and sometimes not. And I know she has gained many friends because of this. The professional genealogical community has an association of one name studies that functions as an umbrella organization to monitor family association. Some function well and others fizzle. There are pamphlets showing how to organize and function effectively. The most effective group that I am aware of is The Rose Family Association, lead by Christine Rose, CG. F.A.S.G. [Chris co-authored the Idiots Guide to Genealogy and lectures Nationally] The Blue Family Association has effectively compiled a newsletter twice a year for $12.00 dues. I think it is time for the group to reorganize and find an editor for a true quarterly published four times a years or go to a twice a year format. The publication should include lineage's of members, compilation of records such a marriage records, deeds, wills and other vital information that can be used by members. These should be contributed by members relieving the editor of research responsibilities. I do not know how many of the list members are familiar with PERSI published by the Allen County Public Library but they publish an index of all the periodicals in their collection. If they have a copy sent to them it will appear in their index. [Fort Wayne, Indiana is the second largest genealogical library in the country] This is a very good way to preserve information published in a newsletter or journal article. Anyone who publishes a one name publication should consider sending one to the Allen County, Public Library. Margaret Amundson, CG
