    3. Marilyn Horton and List, I have some of the names in your email and wonder what other information you may have that could potentially suggest a tie-in of our families? A late distant cousin of mine recently published his branch of our family from which I derived much of the following information. That publication was: Colonel William S MARSH, of Manchester, VT 1738-1816 and His Descendants, Bruce C. Stinson, Aliston, Ontario, Canada 1996, Library of Congress, CS90 .M275 1996. My family's genealogy of which the Marsh publication above is but a portion is Ancestors and Descendants of Samuel French, the Joiner of Stratford Connecticut, Mansfield Joseph French, Edwards Brothers, Inc., Ann Arbor, MI, 2nd Ed, 1940. The specific information that may pertain to the Randall/Warner families is as follows: Armand F Warner son of Pember Warner b Isle of Wight, UK, d abt 1828, Hope Twp, ON and Permilia Soper, b 11 Dec 1795, d 29 Aug 1868, both in Hope Twp, ON. m Sarah Randall, who was born in PA they had 5 children Melia, Lucy, daughter, son, son That's all the information I have for this family except for the marriages of the first two daughters. Any additional information gratefully appreciated. 3. Hello...here is what I know for certain about my Phillip. 1. born 1790 in KY 2. married Sarah RANDALL (not Randle as I previously thought) in 1813 Butler co. OH (Cincinnati area) 3. settled Vermillion co. IN 4. died 1847? I think..I have a copy of his probate document. 5. Sarah lived to be 86 years. 6. They are both buried in Trowbridge (towbridge)Cem. Vermillion Vermilion co.IN I recently proved Sarah's line with a contact in the Randall family. I cannot tie into the Henry French line on Chart #31. I wonder why they named oldest son "Warner". Could this be a family name as they sometimes did in those days? I have looked at census, and many other records but still can't get through the brick wall. There have been lots of Phillip French's through the years and we seem to have lost a generation or two. Can you tell that I am frustrated? Marilyn

    3. If you all don't mind me joining in the conversation, this is one question I can answer -- this John French is the son of Edward French and Jane Banta. Edward was the son of John French and Mary Lees Nield, son of Henry. My line is from John and Mary Lees Nield French and Edward was a brother to George Washington French which is also my family's line. Hope this helps. (I still live in Mercer County.) 2. David A. French
    3. Hi All, There was also a Philip French who came into Bath Precinct, North Carolina in 1702. We have yet to be able to connect him to our Joseph French, Sr. (~1726-~1774) of Carteret and Onslow Counties, North Carolina. No one else was listed as a French that came with him. If my memory serves me, Philip came in with the Blounts, Dearhams (Durhams) and Handcock families. It is generally believed that they came mainly from the Lower Norfolk area of Virgina. The source for Philip are the "Immigrant Lists to North Carolina" which are located at the archives in Raleigh. David french-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Today's Topics: > > 1. 2. Hi Marilyn: I look forward to reading what your "clues" are. Also we were in Mercer County, KY a few years ago, and found the Ludwick cemetery, the Nield Cemetery and another cemetery near there, called the Salt River Cemetery. In the Salt River Cem., there was a stone for John French, b. May 15, 1844 and died, Nov 9, 1920. I have not been able to place him in any family Would anyone know who this man was, and where he fits?

    2. Hi Shirley, Hopefully, Marilyn Horton can give us some more information about Phillip French. I did review my old print outs of e-mails and I see that ages ago (1998) you and I did communicate briefly. I see that you are descended from George French (son of George French and Elizabeth Sturman) and Irena Adams. I descend from Humphrey French and Julia A. Browning. It looks like we keep chasing the same information, but I haven't gotten too far. The lady in Indiana who shared some of her research with me is descended from Humphrey's brother Thomas Sturman French. I am still stuck at Henry French & Elizabeth Ersom and want to move further back. I don't know if the Northumberland, England FRENCH family is really Henry's family--I have no sources other than the databases put on the Internet. I am pretty sure that one of Henry's brothers was Jacob French. There was also a Samuel French mentioned with Henry on some court documents from Mercer County, KY. The technology keeps improving, so I have started trying to research (through Ancestry.com, etc. ) each of Humphrey's siblings to try to find clues that will lead to Henry's parentage using census records, obits, and such. I have used Marge Clark's French Family online database to give me clues on where and what to research. I try to verify middle names whenever possible, because they are often clues to ancestors. I haven't done anything with your George French and Irena Adams, but I had a great time researching the youngest brother Washington French, who had gold fever, left Illinois about 1850 and settled in AZ. Marge Clark's info says he owned a gold mine, which is true; but she also says he was never married, which is not true. He married and had 4 children. His death certificate lists "Elizabeth Stearman" as his mother (it is available online). I'm also trying to work on the STURMAN family which is mentioned along with FRENCH and ERSOM in the Portrait and Biographical Album, Vermilion County, Illinois. Have you done any further work on the STURMAN's? Thanks, Deb -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: SSCOTT736@aol.com > Just curious, where does Phillip FRENCH fit? 3. Have you run across a James B. French (born 1832) and Julia Ann Brown (born 1838) family? This family was in the same area as Phillip French. 3. Do you have any FRENCH people who were in Dearborn Co. Ind in 1812 before and or after. My 2nd grt grandmother was Cassandra ( Keziah) French b in 1797 9as per her bible record she wrote herself) who mar. 1st to William Davis in abt. 1812 there or ???. They had 2 son's, Joshua b June(July) 1813 and John b Dec 1814 there. Later unk. when they are div. and boys must have been taken by Wm. as not with her on 1820 census of Dearborn Co Ind. These boys later worked on River Boats. Cassandra mar. Apr. 1818 to Moses Brannon(an) in County next to Dearborn Co. She used name of Keziah Davis. but thery lived in Dearborrn Co. It is believed that they lived closer to the Court house in the next Co of Franklin than to the one in Dearborn as to get mar. in Franklin Co. In. She d in Tama, Tama Co. Iowa at 95 yr.s of age in 1890. I have a picture of her and her obit. Sarah 'Sally' Purley 9. Elizabeth 'Betsy' French (b. abt 1800) m. George R. Nield I have collected a lot of French information over the years. Some of it comes from a lady in Indiana who does not use a computer. She has done research in many of the counties you mention. George French & Elizabeth Sturman lived in Vermilion County, IL. There was a David French who married one of Elizabeth Sturman's sisters (Rebecca), but it's not known whether he is related to the Henry French family. They lived in Warren County, IN. 1. [FRENCH] Henry FRENCH and Elizabeth ERSOM or Elizabeth EARSOM
    2. Hello, I am a descendant of Henry FRENCH, a gunsmith, b. 1755 probably in Germany. He immigrated to America (VA) about 1770. He and his wife settled in Mercer County, KY. Some of their children moved into Indiana and Illinois. I have seen several messages about him on this mailing list. Some say his wife is Elizabeth ERSOM. (This is the spelling used in a biographical sketch about his grandson Ersom FRENCH in the "Portrait and biographical album of Vermilion County, Illinois ...". Chicago. Chapman Bros. 1889. Pg 735-736.) A few messages say his wife is Elizabeth EARSOM. Does anyone know if Elizabeth is related to Jacob EARSOM who lived in Hampshire County, West Virginia around 1800? One of the FRENCH's daughters married Simon PANCAKE. Simon's mother was an EARSOM. Maybe all of these families came from Germany together? I would like to find anyone who has information on Henry's or Elizabeth's siblings or parents. I don't believe they were from England. The only sibling I have is Henry's brother -- Jacob FRENCH. Thanks for any information. Deb

    1. [FRENCH] Clara French 1870 Census
    2. 24CHRISTOPHER S SCOTT
    3. Does anyone have a Clara French for the 1870 Census in there records she would be about 12 yrs old. On a hunch, my Clara, daughter of Joseph French abt 1834 OH and Sarah J Hatfield abt 1841 are listed in Jasper County, IA. Clara is not listed, I am hoping she maybe with Joseph's family for the 1870 Census. Clara was born 1858 in Wood County, OH, and died 1873 in Wood County, OH where she is buried, with her grandfather John S Hatfield. This hunch could unlock the parentage of my Joseph, Clara's father. Thank You for your time and efforts, Christopher S Scott
