Interesting, my earliest FRENCH ancestor was Richard b. abt. 1567 in Terling, Essex England, married unknown woman, only known child was Richard (2) b. 29 Dec 1597 in Terling, Essex, d. abt. 1670 in Coggeshall, Essex, married Elizabeth FULLER (19 Jan 1606-07 in Coggeshall, Essex, d. abt. 1627 in Coggeshall), they had a son Richard (3) b. abt. 1627 in Coggeshall, Essex, d. 14 Dec 1688 in Marshfield, Plymouth Co. Mass., married (1) Martha DANFORTH (b. abt. 1629, d. abt. 1659 in Billerica, Middlesex Co. Mass.), they had two children, Joseph in 1649 & Samuel 13 Jul 1653, and when Martha died, he married 2nd, Martha BEARE no children known, and so on. If memory serves me correctly, I descend from Sgt. Samuel, son of Richard (3) and Martha DANFORTH, who is my 6th great grandfather, or so it is currently written. Hello, Are you related to the Jack family of Randolph and Jay Counties, IN? The Jacks are related to French family in WI. Steade Craigo
Thanks Jeff. I would hate to buy these books if it is not my family. Betty
Thanks Dave, I'm with you on that. Betty
Thanks, Mara let me know if you run across it. Betty
Julia, I don't know of any living French of my line. I wish I did. All I know is Samuel French and Esther Sooy are my gggreatgrandparents, Howell B. French and Sarah Flood French are my ggreatgrandparents, and John Russell French and Alice Miller French of Randolph County, and Jay County In. are my ggreatgrandparents. I was told this Thomas was my line> Thanks, Betty
Hi Mara, I'm pretty sure this Thomas French is my line. Samuel French who married Esther Sooy from Little Egg Harbor NJ are my gggreatgrandparents. Just wanted to be sure this is my line, before I try to purchase "The Descendants of Thomas French. Thanks, Betty
Betty, do you have a male representive of your French line in the DNA testing? If not, it would be good to do it to prove which is your line. The file on the cd is the exact copy of the book so there is no difference between whether the book is better or the cd is better. The pdf file I was offering to send is not the file off the cd but the information that I compiled on chart number 20 of the french family association. It is my own files converted to pdf. I withdraw my offer to send you any file. It is perfectlly legal for me to send my own files to anyone I want. I am smart enough to now that it is illegal to send anyone files off of a cd. jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "DAVE DARDINGER" <dedmod@msn.com> To: <french@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 2:23 PM Subject: Re: [FRENCH] French Family Association > Thanks, but I already posted that link. Thanks, but I already posted that link. That's what the discussion was about; whether a book or the CD was better. BTW, on my copy of the Burlington disk that's a 41 meg file. I don't know that my mail server would take it anyway. I suppose you could put it on an FTP server, but strictly speaking it wouldn't be legal to send someone else the whole thing, I'd think. Well, I did try googling but didn't find any on-line copy of the book. I found a number of people selling copies of the two volume books for $120.00 and up. And I saw other CDs for $60 and up. But a CD with that and lots of other documents for $20 doesn't seem available and I didn't even find anyone with the entire volumes as a .ged, though I'm sure at one time I'd found it on-line. Anyway, in case I didn't make it clear, this CD I mentioned has the original pages, not just a transcript. And, yes, the original books are nice; I know a fellow whose family got a set of the books when they were more or less new and he showed me his books; though he's not a genealogist himself. But since I can't even be sure I'm connected to the tree, I can't see paying $100+ for it. Hi! I am interested in the family of Jonathan FRENCH married to Huldah DWINNEL. Their son, Luther FRENCH married Polly "Pattie" HEMENWAY 8Apr1830 in Mount Holly, Rutland Co., Vermont. Polly and Luther's daughter, Minerva FRENCH b. 12Jun1835 and married Oscar Franklin PRATT. Can anyone help me with this FRENCH Line of mine? Thanks for your time, Marie
There is no Esther Sooy mentioned in either volume of "The descendants of Thomas French". ----- Original Message ----- From: <betbrew4@fuse.net> To: <french@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 12:49 PM Subject: [FRENCH] Thomas French-England , NJ > Hi Mara, > I'm pretty sure this Thomas French is my line. Hello, I have been working on the French family and seen on the French web site that the Thomas French Vol. 1 & 2 can be purchased anywhere. Would you tell me where I can purchase these vol's. My mother was French, daughter of Richard French and Annie VanDyne. Thank You Shirley Gackenheimer sdgaceknheimer@rtcol.com
I remember a separate chart I had for the Sooy family, and it seems to me that it did have a link to the Thomas French NJ line. Someday I hope to find those papers. Right now I'm concentrating on Henry French of Mercer Co., KY, Chart #31.
