Bill, My Ezra had a son Alden b. 1805 in Waterbury. If yours & mine are one in the same he was 16 when Alden was born. Do you know where Manchester is in reation to Waterbury? My records that I found in Quincy Ma. say my Ezra was born in Waterbury ( they could be wrong ) and he was married to an Abigail (_____) b. in New Salem VT. Bryan
I believe that many of our New England ancestors arrived at the various points in New York and PA after being involved with the Susquehanna Company circ 1770. Many of them settled around the Chemung and Tioga Cos. of New York and Tioga Co., PA. Just thought I'd throw that out. Also, remember that during this same time frame, Connecticut laid claim parts of New Jersey, Sussex Co., included. Marion Scherer
HI thank you very much for the info we may be on the right track i believe that Thomas French could have been the son of William French who was born on 15 August, 1741 and married Nancy MacGenot in 1787. He served under A Col Cookson Built alongblitting fort along the Susquehanna River Bob French
Bob, I have seen Thomas French and an Arthur French on a list of settlers who were living in the Wyoming Valley in 1771 - the list was prepared by Zebulon Butler of the Susquehanna Company. I'll have to fish it out of my notes - there wasn't much on the list - just the two names. I've always thought that my Frenchs were with the Susquehanna Company and took part in the Wyoming Valley events as my Churchills, one of my allied lines, were and as you probably are already aware, there was an Abraham VanGorder who was killed during the Wyoming Valley Massacre. I know there are some other lines that I believe were there as well, but can't recall without my notes. I'll have to get back to you on that. I have been trying to collect as much as I can on the Susquehanna Company and the Wyoming Valley. Unfortunately, I don't have anything more on my Jeremiah French and his wife Margarete VanGorder, however I do have quite a bit from there on down. I've always wondered if Moses French, Sr. and my third great grandfather, William French were named for some of Jeremiah's ancestors - perhaps a father, grandfather or uncle. I believe that Jeremiah's ancestors were originally from one of the New England States, probably Mass or CT. Who are your VanGorders? I visited the Buffalo and Erie County Library last summer and copied a VanGorder research file that had been compiled by Greenleaf S. VanGorder, an attorney in Buffalo, back in the early 1900s. I copied what was in the file, which was set up just like a legal case file. If you are interested - I could mail a copy of it to you. Unfortunately, I couldn't pin down my Margarete VanGorder or her father Jacob. I have entered my French information to Family Tree Maker 7.0, but don't have anything online yet and don't have a clue as to how to attach it to email. I will be happy to mail a copy of the genealogy report to you as well. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you for your email. Sincerely, Marion Scherer
HI: you maybe able to help me, I have a gr-gr-gr-gr Grandfather whose name was William and fought in the French & Indians wars, I understand he built forts along the Susquehanna River and was also with the relief troop at the Wyoming Valley massacre. I believe that his one son named Thomas who was married to Charlotte Delaney is also my Gr-GR-Gr grandfather. I also have some Vangorders in my ancestors Bob French
Bill, I'm very interested in your Jeremiah French. My 4th great grandfather and current brickwall is Jeremiah French, b. ca. 1759-1765, m. (1) Margarete VanGorder; m. (2) Hannah Gildersleeve; d. 1846 in Erin, Tioga Co., NY. Jeremiah French was in Sussex Co., NJ in 1778, served in the Continental Army, moved to Shamokin, Northumberland Co., PA and appeared on the 1790 census for Northumberland County as having one son over 16, two sons under sixteen, and two daughters under sixteen. Jeremiah then appears on the Tioga County, NY census starting in 1800 until 1840. I don't know who Jeremiah's parents were or his birthplace. Jeremiah may have had a brother named Nathaniel and a sister named Mary E. French. Mary E. French was born in 1761 and died 6 August, 1880 at the age of 119 years, 7 months and 6 days, and is buried in the French Hill Cemetery in Middlebury, Tioga Co., PA. This is the same small family cemetery that my third great grandparents, William French and his wife (H)Esther Martin are buried in. Does any of this sound familiar? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Marion Scherer

HISTORY OF DEARBORN AND OHIO COUNTIES (Indiana) page 520 In the early settlement in the southern part of the township, (Pike township) (Ohio county, Indiana) a class of Methodists was accustomed to worship at residence of George French, who was a class leader. This denomination, we believe, has never erected a meeting-house of their own in the township. George (John) Frensch was born 19 Sep 1775 the son of Joahn and Maria Barabara FRENSCH in Chanceford township, York County, PA. George was baptized 15 Oct 1775 Micheal and Ana Elisabeth Worn were the sponsors. The Register of Stehis later known as St Luke's Union Congregation, Chanceford township, York county, PA.

Am researching Sarah French who was born about 1828. I believe she was born in Kentucky. She married Sidney D. Daughtery June 1, 1843. Does anyone have any information on her and her ancestors? Thanks Sharon
The siblings of Lorenzo Dow French were Alpheus, Daniel, L. D., Reuben, Mary, sidney, Lebbeus, and Margaret. This is from a settlement of Chancery Case #81 Fauquier County, VA. Daniel French was the son of John French and Margaret Burgess who married in 1749 in St. Paul's Parish Staffored Co. VA. John was the son of Mason French and Catherine Ellis [daughter of Charles Ellis] and Mason was the son of Hugh French and wife Margaret [?] Prosser, MIller, French and later Summerville. The names that appear from the posting certainly suggest this is the same man. I would love to know if any of the other siblings were there in the same area.
Lorenzo Dow French may be the same person of that name who was the son of Daniel French and wife Eunice Dunham of Loudoun and Fauquier Co. VA. He is the right age. I have papers from a court case among the heirs of Reuben and George French that give that name as one of the sons of DAniel French. I will have to pull my files and look again. it is the place he settled that is the puzzle for me. I thought he went south. The name comes from a minister that road circuit in Virginia. I have never found evidence that he reached Loudoun Co. which is where his parents were married 14 January 1800. I have been working on this family [the descendants of Hugh French] for about 10 years now and do plan to publish some day. The marriage bond says Eunice was the daughter of Amos Dunham Jr. Margaret Amundson, Walkersville, MD
