    3. Some of my French's lived in Las Vegas (where I was born). Are any of your relatives related to William D. and Sophia Anne Martin? If so, I have lots to share, especially on William D's and Ella Misner (his first wife) side. 3. Bryan - yep! ya never know. My great uncle compiled my family's genealogy in 1939 called "Ancestors and Descendents of Samuel French The Joiner of Stratford Conn" The Family History Center in Salt Lake has a copy as do many of my relations. But there were only about 300 printed. I am attempting to up date ours and expand it somewhat to spouse's parents and mother's parent. Aint going far with my wife's as both her grandparents are from Sweden and Norway and I no habla either. My mother may be easier and I hope to resume that search soon. (Rogers). Am also in the process of converting the book to a PAF file and intend to upload it to the Family History site whenever I finish so many other may benefit from the great job my great uncle did. He went back to Dorset and Sommerset Counties in England about 1550-1600. Actually he 'sorta' traces the French family from Rolf the Norseman, baptized in 912 as Robert, Duke of Normandy. But his focal point of the genealogy is Samuel French who settled in Conn. in the early 1680s but was born in South Perrott, County Dorset, England. Hope to be making a trip to our ancestrial grounds in May and also research my grandmother's paternal side in Manchester.

    2. Would one of your lineage be a Charles R. French who was born about 1818-1819. Charles was by late-husbands g-grandfather. I found him listed on the 1860 census from Fayette County, Iowa, where it said he was born in Connecticut. Thanks for checking Joyce DameFrench@aol.com

    3. Hi Marion, Don't thinnk we have the same Jeremiah - although I do have several of them. They include a Capt Jeremiah son of Jeremich and Hannah (Edwards) French b 8JUL1743 Strafford CT d 5DEC1820 m Elizabeth Wheeler. This Jeremiah, my genealogy says ..."spent his boyhood in Dover, Dutchess Co., NY About 1764 he removed to Manchester, Bennington Co. VT.." He was the Town clerk there 1768-73; selectman 1773, constable 1774. Enlisted 15JUL 1777 as Captain of the 4th Company of the Queen's Loyal Rangers, serving with the British army in Canada to 1783 - Opps, wrong side. Another was born in 1762 I believe in Sussex Co NJ and another in Anwell NJ same year. He served in the revolution, but there doesnt seem much more about him, Another may be a tad too late b 19AUG 1764 Ripton Parish, Huntington, Fairfield Co. CT d 11FEB 1835 in Williston VT Couldn't find any of the other names in my book - Gildersleeve or Van Gorder - nor a Mary E French at or about the date you mentioned Bill French Houston TX

    2. Joanne
    3. The Thomas French I am interested in was born in Berkley, Bristol Co., MA., 1760. He marr. 1)Lydia (---) but I don't know where. A history resource I have (but can't lay my hands on) stated that Thomas French, with a large family, came from Vermont in late 1790's to Cortland County, (Cinncinatus). One of his children was Calvin W. whom he later sold some land to. I do not know the make-up of the so-called "large family". Thomas and Calvin and some family members are buried in the Texas Valley Cemetery in Marathon, Cortland County, NY and Thomas' gravestone records that he was a native of Berkley, Ma., that he died in 1831. I have the feeling that Thomas, leaving Berkley, Ma, came to NY via Vermont but cannot find where he may have touched down in Vt. for any length of time. It's a long trail to retrace.
