    3. > I have a copy of the will of James French, but not John's. > Jackie I have a John C. with brothers James and Joseph and sister Esther, probably originally from MD See my message re possible connection with John the MD from MD. Lost track of James after he was placed under guardianship of my 5g grandfather Matthew in 1753, Winchester, Frederick Co VA. Matthew dies in Giles Co 1814 and another Matthew French is in adjacent Tazewell Co and 1850 census shows his mother Elizabeth and his sister born in MD though then living with him. He dies 1859 or there abouts. Any possible connection with either Mathew and your James?? Oh, yes--and there are several MDs among elder Mathew's offspring--it does seem genetic sometimes, doesn't it? The last known:ggg grandson French Smith, MD Spanish-American war. Jackie Seattle

Martha ? c173?, children include: Matthew, James, Joseph, Esther and possibly a William and Ann. John C. is original Fairfax grantee 1749, died 1750 Frederick County VA, said to have been from MD. I descend from Matthew who is probably oldest child because of record below: Order Book 5, Winchester, Frederick County, VA August 9th 1753, Matthew French guardian to James, Joseph, and Esther. August 9, 1753. "Matthew French is appointed guardian of James French, Joseph French, and Esther French orphans of John French deceased, he having entered into bond together with Francis Williams and Edward Burke, his securities, and they having acknowledged their bond, the order given to be recorded." Any possibility we connect? Jackie Seattle

    3. Dorothy, Can you tell me a little more about your French's who were in Montana and Wash. State. I have a William French who was married to Elizabeth Catlin (b. 1820) their only child that I am aware of is Henry Tracy French who was b. 1839 in Maine then later moved to Wisconsin. He son, Warren Lester French (b. 1874) and some other siblings later moved to the Flathead Valley of Montana. Warren married Mary Blanche Adams, they settled in Flathead Valley, however also for at time lived in Whitman County, Washington. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. thanks, Jan Snohomish, WA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck & Dorothy" <cdrowley@volcano.net> To: <FRENCH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 8:37 AM Subject: Re: [FRENCH-L] Another French line to consider > Joyce > > I do not know of a Charles in my lineage, but then I only know of where my > grandfather William Andrew French was born, in Des Moines , Iowa ,7/30/1868 > His father was William H. 3. Don't know if I've asked this before or not...there are quite a few entries for a Benjamin FRENCH in Barren County, Kentucky. Since my Samuel was there around the same time, wondered if anyone has checked any of the Barren County FRENCH family out? As soon as I retire, that's going on my "list" of things to do...am about running out of paper for that list!!! <smile> Thanks, Jan Lund

    3. Thank you once again! You always provide such detailed and obviously painstakenly put together information. I visited St. Louis Cemetary last month while visiting KY for a wedding. I never found the stones I was looking for, but I was probably standing among many of my forebears without knowing it. Someday I'll get to visit St. Clares. 3. Donald, In these days of the anomaly of open friendship of strangers, we all become invisable to those around us. There are very few strangers whom we remember in the onslaught of so many faces on the street, on the highway and on television. Thus, we become a world of empty faces. I, being a person of many years, decided to become more than a face in the maze, and when I am at the grocery, have a pleasant look on my face. As people come towards me I 'see' them, and often smile and say,"Good morning !". Not so long ago, among the vegetables, an older lady came towards me. I engaged her eyes," How are you this morning?' She looked at me with a nose held high, and replied ,"I don't like your face." I caught a glance of my own embarrassed face over the lettuce, and couldn't answer. I looked away , and walked a little faster. I thought of things I could have said back, then I began to feel sorry for her. She was alone among strangers. I hope you needed an editorial !
