    3. Hi Mara - I'm so glad to hear your Mother is improving--my positive thoughts go out to her for continued health. Mara, when I renewed my membership in the FAA, I included payment for the chart my family is covered on, and also asked about the three quarterlies I didn't receive for my last membership year. I haven't received an acknowledgement from the FAA. My check cleared some time ago, and I am getting a little concerned. I understand completely that you have been unable to respond personally, but I had hoped I would hear from someone else connected with the association. I would appreciate your looking into this when time allows. Again, God Bless you and your family. Thank you. Billie B. (Faulk) Rudy

I'll now be attending to your communication. Please excuse the delay. Best regards, Mara French PS. 3. Dear Richard, The names of your French ancestors and the locale is so similar to mine that I thought I would contact you and see if we had any connection. My G-Grandfather Thomas French was born in 1835, Jennings Co. IN. He was living with the Dixon family (1850 census). He married Mary Little b. Dearborn Co. 1840 and moved to Jennings after 1850. They were married in 1864. They are both buried in Queensville Cemetery, Geneva Twp. Jennings Co.IN. I have never been able to find his parents or any siblings. I have been researching them for years. I have been to Jennings Co. twice but am unable to come up with anything. 1. [FRENCH-L] New Jersey Frenchs
    2. There were many Frenchs in New Jersey - many different counties. Sussex County, Morris County, Huntingdon County and what is now Ocean County - to name a few. Also, different spellings - Frensh for one. My 4th great grandfather was Jeremiah L. French who was in Sandyston, Sussex County, NJ in 1778. He served in the Continental Army as a private. Jeremiah married Margarete VanGorder/VanGarden. (Sussex County was formed from part of Morris County). Jeremiah moved to Shamokin, Northumberland Co., PA after being mustered out of the Army. He appears on the 1790 Census as having one son over 16, two sons under sixteen and two daughters under sixteen. The sons were, Moses French, Sr., William French and Jeremiah French. I believe the sisters were Flora and possibly Mary. Jeremiah and his family then remove to Tioga County, New York appearing on the 1800 Census for that county. Jeremiah and Margarete both died in 1846, Erin, Tioga Co., NY. Jeremiah's sons Moses Sr. and William resided in Chemung and Steuben Counties, NY and raised their families in those counties until after their parents' death. At that time, both sons and their families moved to French Hill, Middlebury, Tioga County, PA. I believe that Jeremiah's father was also a Jeremiah, but haven't been able to confirm that. Although many of the New Jersey Frenchs were Quakers, I am disinclined to think that Jeremiah and his family were. Margarete VanGorder/VanGarden was of the Dutch Reformed Church which had been her family's faith for many generations. My grandfather told me that his family had come from New England, moved down the coast then over to PA and NY. Sound familiar to anyone. Some other allied lines are Martin, Shaff, Churchill, VanGorder/VanGarden, Hulett/Hewlett and Monk. Still out there are Shoemaker, Niles, Lyman and Myers to name a few. This is chart 179 French Family Association. Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar to anyone. Marion Scherer

    3. My Mary T French is American Indian, probably Cherokee. She was married in 1844 in Limestone, Alabama to John Murphy Wood, and moved to Burnet County, Texas. I have found quite a few French on the lists, and have met one lovely one, Ann, who is working for the government in Washington. I couldn't find anything until I started looking in the tribal lists.
