    2. Julia--- Thanks for your helpful reply on this. I descend from Joseph P. French (one of my g2grandfathers), b. 3-23-1812, Edgefield, South Carolina; d. 10-22-1879, Pike County, Alabama. He, as well as the rest of my French lineage may be viewed through my son, Roger's website at http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~banks/ Is there a way I can check for my French lineage being shown on one of the FFA charts? Again, thank you and best regards, Ralph Banks (RafB@aol.com), Austin, TX

Harlan S. French >> The reason that I haven't answered this query is because, Mara French, the head of the French Family Association is a member of this list, and I was waiting for her to answer. She has had many personal problems in the past year, and hasn't been able to devote any time to her Genealogy pursuits. Her mother is gravely ill, and Mara has been caring for her in addition to her work and other of life's duties. She has asked that we all be patient and hopes that she will be able to get back to the FFA soon. I hesitate to speak for her, but can't leave the questions hanging. For those who do not know, the FFA has been around for about 15 years, and before the Internet, was the only means of connecting all the French lines. Mara produced a newsletter four times a year, that included queries, stories, pictures, Charts, and the names, addresses, and the French line of all members. Also, one could order the entire chart from which they were descended, after they had determined the Chart #. Mara, was very devoted to the FFA, and made several trips each year for the purpose of research, and to meet her many subscribers. She paid a visit to me from her home in CA to mine in New Orleans a couple of years ago, and went to the yearly French reunion in Beaumont, TX, and on to MS and AL. There are some people on the Internet who have been placed in charge of the FFA charts from which they descend, and they will mail you the chart if you request it, but I do not have that information. I am in charge of Chart #184, which is the Samuel French of Anson Co., NC c. 1748>Rutherford, NC>Wilkes, GA>Montgomery, TN. My French line is available on my Website at: members.aol.com/juliafwood/mypage Click on the Alphabetic Index, letter "F", then scroll to the Frenches. I should have my French Chart listed separately, but haven't found the time to do that. I will put that on my list of things to do. Have a good day. Julia French Wood Listowner

    3. Hi there, anyone on the list. I am hoping once more to find someone on the list who maybe has a clue about my French connection. I have tried in vain for many years to find any clues on my George French. His daughter (my great-great grandmother, Lucy French was born Oct. 20, 1837 supposedly in Pike Co., IL. I have never found her family listed in any census record and only know that, at least according to her death certificate, her parents were named George French and Lucy (maiden name unknown). Lucy French married Amos Williams (about who I also nothing on his parents) on Jan. 11, 1855 in Greene Co., IL. Greene Co. borders Greene Co. to the south. By tradition I know they are supposed to have moved by wagon train to Nebraska, but have never been able to verify that. I know that Amos and Lucy lived in the Omaha, NE area in the early 1900s. If anyone thinks they may know anything about these people, I would certainly appreciate your contacting me at your earliest convenience. My e-mail is: gf3smred@peaknet.net Gale Red Belleville, IL

    3. Diane, Are you aware of the fact that information about the individuals identified in your message is contained in, "Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas French" Volume I, which was privately printed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1909? In other words, do you already have access to the information from this source? Also, that Thomas French's descendants are being compiled in Chart #20 of the French Family Association? Hi All - I haven't been paying close attention to the list but the posting by Lorri <mindream> caught my eye since it extends the French Family Association Line 1 back two generations from where I had previously understood it was stuck at (i.e. Jacob French b. abt. 1555 near Assington, Suffolk). Now there is a father to Jacob - Thomas French b. abt. 1513 in Saxmundham and a father of Thomas - William French b. abt 1509 in Saxmundham. Is this now confirmed? 1. [FRENCH-L] BROWN-FRENCH (Mary, Peter, Derrick)
    2. Teddy Ronan
    3. Help please. I'm trying to sort out this BROWN mess I have. I have Mary BROWN b. abt. 1686 in MD (probably St. Marys County), daughter of Derrick BROWN. I have her married to Martin FRENCH. Along comes a passage from Mary Donnelly's book that mentions Peter BROWN in 1795, willed to his sisters 7 children (FRENCH)part of his estate. Then today I found excerpts from Peter BROWNS will (1792) that he willed to Mary BROWNS 7 children (his daughter). Here there was no mention of the FRENCH surname. Can anyone help me with BROWN / FRENCH relationship in MD (St. Marys) and KY (Nelson or Hardin County)?
