    3. I don't know if we have a connection or not. I have nothing on a Robert FRENCH, but you also mention William Thomas FRENCH. I have the following French family, from KY, later Jasper County IL. Elisha M. FRENCH born 1786 in Maryland, married Jane Norris, Nelson County KY, died Oct 11, 1868 in Jasper County, IL. He had a son William born 1821 in Hardin County, KY. Could your grandfather be a descendent of this family. I have siblings names. GeeJee@webtv.net wrote: > Looking for info on my grandfather. He married Rosella Josie Miller. (my > grandmother). 1. [FRENCH-L] "little French girl on next farm"
    2. Greetings, Listers, Searching for that needle in a haystack! Area: Perry and/or Licking Cos. OH - Oct 1845 Our great grandfather Alfred M. MECHLING's parentage is not known. We suspect Jacob MECHLING s/o Peter & Mary (DOWNHOUR) MECHLING as his father. The mother, well, the "tale" my uncle gave us, is that his mother was the "little French girl on a neighboring farm." For years, I thought "nationality" French. But the area is VERY German. So, I looked into surname FRENCH -- and found at least one FRENCH family resided in this area of Ohio. If anyone finds a young gal having a baby ca Oct 1845, in this area of Ohio, and not keeping it, or perhaps dying in childbirth, I'd be MOST EAGER to hear. Alfred is found on each census (1850-1880), residing with a different family - but NOT with a FRENCH family. What validity has the "tale??" Guess only time will tell. Looking forward to hearing from listers with help and suggestions. Caral MECHLING BENNETT

    1. [FRENCH-L] Robert Ellis French
    2. My Granddad George French died in 1984. I never asked any questions about his genealogy while I could. For the last 2 years I have been on an almost daily search to find any info I can, so far all I have is that his dad was Robert Ellis French. Ells was reared in Marion and Muscogee county Georgia. I find this on census records. I think his mother became Susan Worsham in 1851, apparently his dad died. I also think he had a brother in Taylor county Georgia. His name was Seaborn French. Does Any of this ring a bell to anyone? This family must of not done anything to ever be recorded, though Ellis was in the civil war. I am at a point that I do not believe I belong to anybody. Any info would be Very Appreciated. Thanks in advance. Elaine Lott

    1. [FRENCH-L] Need help with William & Joseph French
    2. Hello fellow researchers, I need assistance is proving Joseph French (married Christiana Slim in Moorestown NJ and was the father of Lewis Devote French) was the son of William French the son of Jonathan French. I know Jonathan married Hester Matlack in Haddonfield MM 1/12/1744. He died prior to her second marriage to Vespian Kemble in 1774. I have William listed as his son and need proof. William's marriage register only says he married Ruth Higby at the Gloria Dei Church. I cannot link these two outside of the Genealogies of the Descendants of Thomas French by Howard Barclay French. Has anyone found the proof I'm seeking? Thanks Diane NY

    3. Hi Lorri, I have a problem with the information posted tying Susan/Susanah/Sara RIDDLESDALE to Robert FRENCH b 26 Apr 1545, Saxmundham Suffolk England. According to Mr. Steven Lawson's information which you included in a recent post Susan/Susanah/Sara RIDDLESDALE m Thomas FRENCH son of JACOB FRENCH and SUSAN WARREN. It would be nice if Mr Lawson's material carried JACOB FRENCH back further - perhaps he does - but not on his website. My genealogy shows ROBERT(ROBARD) FRENCH (frenche), 4th son of THOMAS FRENCH of Saxmundham. ROBERT christened on 26 Apr 1545 married ALICE (AELLS) WYLTON I cannot reconcile this inconsistency. I guess it is conceivable there was another ROBERT FRENCH with the exact same birthdate, descended from THOMAS FRENCH and ALICE (ALSE in record) but it doesn't seem logical. You indicated this information was obtained from a LOKER connection. Could you direct me to that source which may be where the problem may be unraveled? Thanks Bill French Houston TX wcfrench@compuserve.com

Notes for ROBERT FRENCH: Notes for Robert French "The parish of Bures Saint Mary lies straddling the River Stour. Part of the parish is in Suffolk and part in Essex, England. The marriage record for Jacob Frenche and Susan Waren, as well as birth records for children William, Jacob, and Thomas. The Assington parish is adjacent in Suffolk. Jacob and his wife either moved or changed parishes in about 1585 or 1586. No probate records have been found for Jacob French in the indexes for the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, Archdeaconry Courts of Sudbury, of Essex, or the Consistory Court of Norwich. S0117 S0220 - Jacob French first appears on record in the parish of Bures Saint Mary, Suffolk, on 27 Sep 1578 when he and Susan Warren were married. There being no other records of the French family in Bures Saint Mary prior to his marriage, or the rest of the sixteenth century, it seems certain that he came from some neighboring village. About 1585 or 1586, Jacob and Susan either moved from Bures Saint Mary to Assington, or changed their church affiliations, for subsequent records of the family are found in Assington, either in the parish register which starts in 1598, or in the Bishop's transcripts which cover a few years between 1564 and the advent of the parish register. " http://www.kapnet.com/family%20trees/NOTES.html#NI2601 French Ancestry in England Jacob and Susan (Warren) French Jacob FRENCH - b. about 1555, probably in Suffolk or Essex, England; bur. Nov. 11, 1615, Assington, Suffolk, England. One source suggests that he was the son of Stephen (b. about 1530) and Mary FRENCH. Jacob married Sep. 27, 1578, Bures St. Mary, Essex, England. Susan WARREN - b. say 1560. Believed to be the granddaughter of William and Katherine WARREN of Bures St. Mary. William died intestate, with administration of his estate granted to Katherine on Sep. 26, 1554 in Essex. Katherine's will, dated July 31, 1567, was proved Jan. 1570/1 in Essex. William and Katherine's probable family appears in NEHGR, July 1988, pages 251-252, including children: William; Thomas; Katherine married John ANSELL; John married Joan; Robert; Julyan; Elizabeth married William SIDAY; and three other children. Children of Jacob and Susan French 1. William - bap. July 25, 1580, Bures St. Mary, Essex. He perhaps was the William FRENCH living at Twinstead Essex, with sons Thomas and Jacob baptised there. 2. Jacob - bap. Aug. 12, 1582, Bures St. Mary, Essex. He probably died young. 3. Thomas - bap. Oct. 11, 1584, Bures St. Mary, Essex, England; d. before Nov. 5, 1639, Ipswich, MA. 4. Elizabeth - bap. Feb. 27, 1586/7, Assington, Suffolk. Recorded as the "dau. of Jacob." 5. Children - It is probable that Jacob and Susan had about 4 children born 1588-1595, for whom baptism records are not available. 6. John - bap. Mar. 27, 1596, Assington, Suffolk. Probable son. John had a dau. Sarah buried at Assington Jan. 22, 1620/1. 7. Susan - say 1598; bur. Aug. 1, 1613, Assington, Suffolk. Recorded as the "dau. of Jacob." 8. Robert - bap. Jun. 25, 1600, Assington, Suffolk. Recorded as "the son of Jacob & Susan." >From the files of Stephen M. Lawson, http://sml.simplenet.com/smlawson/french.htm
