I hope that this helps answer some questions for some of us. Further to Pat Bridges email about old occupations, the following links are to further sites of interest. Each site has a slightly different set of occupations. http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/trades.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/occs.htm Pat's references were http://cpcug.org/user/jlacombe/terms.html http://www.usgenweb.org/researchers/occupations.html The second of these I had not seen before, and I just added the link to that to my own web pages. I am passing this on in hopes it will be of help to someone. Both Jan and Pam are subscibers on the TALBOT surname list Godbless Lorri A good site to look for pictures of ancestors serving in Civil War. You can then send for a photo copy and more information before sending for a copy of the actual photo. Jan http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html Hi! I was just on this site: www.ancientfaces.com It has almost 1200 old photos and over 1300 family names...thought maybe someone could connect with one of their surnames! Pam .
Hang in there we will find them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth King Black" <lizblack@worldnet.att.net> To: <FRENCH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2000 6:15 PM Subject: Re: [FRENCH-L] Susan Riddlesdale > Sorry, I don't. >

No I am not a member of the French Association. The Frenches are in my late husband's line. He descended from either two or three Frenches. One was Margaret French, b. ca. 1612, who married Edward Lamb. She was a daughter of Thomas and Susannah Riddlesdale. Another was Mary Elizabeth French, b. 1823, who married William Walker Call. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Dorothy P. Carrier. A third possibility is the husband of Mary Paine, b. 1689, who was married either to Samuel French or Samuel Hayward. She may have lived in Braintree, but I can't find a marriage of a Samuel French that fits. That's about it. Liz

French and his marriage to Ella Leora Misner and their son, John who married Harriet Dimmack and they had 10 children. All of these children and their descendants go by the name of Reid, and their are a lot of them, buy they are really John FRENCH's and the descendants of William D. French. As far as I have been able to discern, there were NO children from Ella's marriage to Walter E. Reid. I wish someone knew when and where William and Ella were married, probably in New York, where she lived with her parents, but they lived in Grand Rapids, Kent, MI. There is a recording of her marriage to W.E. Reid in Grand Rapids, Kent, MI. I sent to MI vital records and they had no copy. Later I discovered it was found in the Grand Rapids Public Library - Index to Michigan research found in genealogical periodicals by Maud Quigley (main auther Western Michigan Genealogy Society (Grand Rapids, Michigan) (added author) book of compilation of aids and articles found in genealogical periodicals house in the Grand Rapids Public Library. (That was the way the entire source was written. Is there anyone out there at all that could possibly look that up for me? It it apparently listed by bride (twice for her, once as Ella Misner and again by her first married name French) and by groom, Walter E. Reid. If I could find out the date this would help figure out a lot of things. I have been searching this for so long it would be a very happy day for me if I could ever find it! I have the following: Thomas = Alice or Stephen ( b. c. 1515) = Mary Jacob (b. ca. 1545) = Susan Warren (b. c. 1555) both born in Assington, Susan the dau. of William and Katherine. Thomas (b. ca. 1584) = Susannah Riddlesdale (b. ca. 1584) both born in Assington, Susannah the dau. of John (b. 26 Dep 1557, Boxted, Essex) and Dorcas ? (b. 1560 in Assington). John the son of HenryRidsdale (b. ca. 1518 in Boxford, Suffolk) and Joan ?, Henry the son of Jasper Rydysdale (b. ca. 1490) and Elizabeth ? This is all probably from Gendex and thus not terribly reliable.
