Lorri: Chart #5: According to FFA Chart #5, Thomas French's parents were John French, Jr (1640-41) and Experience Thayer. Thomas married Mary "Marcy" Allen. And John French, Jr's parents were John French (ca 1612) and Grace Kingsley. This John French came from Dorset, England in ca. 1637 and settled in Braintree and Dorchester, MA. His decendants, including Thomas French, are the subject of FFA's Chart #5. I don't have much on John French Jr as my line follows from his brother Samuel French (1659). But Chart #5 does show that Thomas French's son Micah French b. Nov 3, 1720 in Braintree was thought to have no offsprings. Confirmation of John French's descendants can be found in numerous library sources, including the Vinton Memorial, the Harry Dana French collection, the Sprague Collection, the Thayer Memorial, and many other books. Chart #1: It is my understanding that Thomas French b 1584 in Assington, County Suffolk, England, emigrated to Ipswich, MA in 1630, and is the subject of FFA's Chart #1. Captain William Henry's company, Col. Whitney regiment in Athol. After service of two months and 19 days ( including 19 days travel time home) in Rhode Island, he was discharged July 5, 1777. He again enlisted from Athol, Sept. 28, 1777, this time in Capt. John Oliver's company, Nathan Sparhawk's regiment. He was discharged Oct. 18, 1777 after 18 days service including 8 days travel time home, during this later enlistment he served as part of the reinforcements of the Northern army during the defeat and surrender of the British Army under General Burgoyne at Saratoga NY. about 1785 he again moved with his wife and those of his children still unmarried, to Dumerston, Vermont. In the middle 1790's they went with their now grown son Micah, and his family to Windsor Vermont and in 1798 making the last move of their lives Micah and Ruth French, made their home in Sandgate Vermont near the New York State line. I am descended through Eva Sophia French and Leonard S. Wolfkill with my maternal grandmother Eva Elizabeth Wolfkill-Boyer being their grand daughter. I have many gaps in my ancestral tree for Eva Sophia French and hope that some of the other researchers on this list can help me out. I know that she was born on August 10,1843 in Tell Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA and died on March 6, 1912 in Mifflin Co., PA. She is buried along side of Leonard Wolfkill in Maitland COB Mifflin County, PA which is a Dunkard Church. She was widow to at least 3 husbands, including Henry J. Kauffman, Joseph Rothrock Hanawalt and Leonard S. Wolfkill. She may have had an earlier one since an Eva Sophia French is listed as wife of Alexander Maggee in John French Jr's will probated in August 1858 but our Eva Sophia would have been only 15 at the time. We are also not sure of who her father was. Some in our family have her as the daughter of William C. French while others have it as John French and Eva Sherrod/ Sherrer. Any help that you can provide in sorting this out would be greatly appreciated. warmest regards to all ... gary grove

My French's were also from Ky and IL. I am connected to them trough my great grandfather, John Wesley Hall from Stanton, Ky. His two sisters married French brothers, Ella Hall married George French and Martha aka Mattie married George's brother, Nicholas or David Nicholas French. George and Ella left Ky and came to Illinois and lived and died in McLean County. Nicholas died at a young age but his widow Martha (Hall) French and had 1 child, a girl and was with child at the time Nicholas died. She later gave birth to a son, named Millard. One of John's brothers married a Roberts and one of John's sisters married R.P. Rose. All of these marriages took place in Powell County, Ky. at Stanton. Hi, I'm a new subscriber and this is my lineage: George R. French was born 6/5/1934 in Dover, NJ. His father, Addison H French was born 2/16/1895 in Pequannock, NJ. His father, George R French was born 8/27/1865 in Eagle Valley, NY. His father, Wm. James French was born abt 1831-1832 in England. No further information is available for this individual, and he is the subject of my research. A possible candidate has been identified. His name is William French, Chr. 4/29/1832 probably in Adwinkle, Northants, England. He was the son of George French born abt 1790, same location, and the grandson of Edmund French, Chr. 1/27/1765 In Thorpe, Achurch, Northants, England. Any information on this William French would be greatly appreciated. The place or year of his death or marriage would be very important. George R French
