>From time to time I see reference to various charts in the French List postings. The most recent example is: Marion Scherer, Chart 179, Jeremiah French of NJ, NY & PA. An earlier posting by Ray Novack provided a copy of The GREEN Pages which listed even more. I assume that these charts are trees for various branches of the French family that the French Family Association has constructed over the years. If so where I can I find them. Have any of these charts been published on a web page somewhere ? If not, why not ? They seem to be commonly used in these posting and would be a very valuable asset to others like me who know that they are French descendants but don't know exactly where they fit in. In my case, I am the great (4x) grand son of Eva Sophia French - Kauffman- Hanawalt and Leonard S. Wolfkill who lived in Huntingdon and Mifflin County, PA during the mid to late 1800's. It would be a great Christmas present to get a copy of the chart(s) that pertain to her and her ancestors. happy holidays to all ... gary grove
Marion, Thank you for the help. I am looking for a full blood Cherokee. I wonder if any of these people at Valley Forge were Indian. They were from North and South Carolina. My ggrandmother was Mary T. French, b. 1823 in North Carolina. I have found a man who might be her brother named William L. French, Cherokee name, Co-dos-ki, who's father was French Hawk-Frank French, Cherokee name, Col-lun-see Gar-lun-chi. I have hoped to find another like myself whose name came from native beginnings. It seems that the name.French may come from many different countries for many reasons. It makes for many different walls, doesn't it? I am looking for information on the Arthur FRENCH family. Arthur FRENCH and his wife Mary came to California in the early 1850's. The 1860 sinking of the Steamship NORTHERNER took the life of Arthur. It left San Francisco on January 4, 1860 and sank off of Cape Mendocino on its way to Portland on Jan. 5th. Arthur was First Officer under Captain Dall. He was found and taken to SF for burial. The 1860 census of San Francisco shows wife Mary, age 25, a son Arthur, age 7, a daughter Mary, age 5, another daughter Lizzie, age 4 and another person, a Physician Ryan (Hyan) J. age 35. The daughter Mary, married Robert A. Douglass in 1872. The daughter Lizzie A, married Capt. Loring G. Emerson in 1883. I have no information on the son, Arthur or the Mother Mary. Any information, or perhaps even a clue would be very much appreciated. The daughter Mary is my Great Grandmother and have little information on her. I do not know where she is buried, or her date of death altho we believe it was shortely after 1875 when her son Robert A. Douglass was born. Thank you for your time. Regards, Dona windydona@saber.net
