    3. Dear Carol, I have belonged tthe French Association for several years. I do not know anything about charts but there are lineages available. The French Association has them. Mara French is the person who does most of thework and her mother is or was very ill and it took all of her time caring for her. As to the lineages. I was put on the wrong lineage and it took me 3 years to get off of it. Of course my French being named Henry is the problem. There were at least 3 who lived at the same time. One in Tenn. One in Pa and One in Va. The odd thing is that all 3 married the same woman on the same date in the same place meaning that everyone assumed they had the right marriage and used it as theirs. Of course I think I have the correct one but do not actually have any proof except they named 2 of their sons after her father and grandfather. One other was after the father and don't know the other name but it may have been from Henry's mother or fathers family. If you have a Henry French who landed in Jackson Co., OH. then you are related to me. Wish I could help but I can't. Just don't give up. The last stuff I got from the assosciation I have never figured out how to use it. A big help that is. Just thought I would let you know that you aren't the only frustrated person out there. Keep trying . 3. Thanks, Marilyn, for your input. I agree.....the internet is GREAT and there are so many new resources being added at Rootsweb and elsewhere that really help But we need to start at the beginning and work back.....getting proof, talking to relatives, checking census records, etc. I, too, looked for the wrong people for a long time because of some information erroneously given and since I had no other "clues" I tried to trace the wrong person back. Finally found the wife's family and got the correct names from the wills, etc., and the death announcements in the paper, etc. Jan Lund -----Original Message----- From: Marilyn Horton <mhorton@wirefire.com> To: FRENCH-L@rootsweb.com <FRENCH-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 28, 2000 10:44 AM Subject: [FRENCH-L] FFA >Please don't be too hard on Mara. I am member of FFA, I bought a chart that is in error and I have proved it. I wrote to Mara about it and I'm sure that she will take care of it. Not all the French lines are in their charts. Mine is not and I can go back to Phillip b.1790. At that point I am at a brick wall. I would dearly love to be able to tie in to one of the charts! Why not try writing to the county historical society where your ancestor lived or married to get information? Pay a researcher if you have to do so. This internet is great BUT not entirely accurate all of the time. If you are new to genealogy, get proof of the statement, check out the sources that are quoted to you. 2. You are misunderstanding my annoyance. The point that I am making is that this list has NOTHING to do with the French Family Association. And when messages are sent to this list asking about the FFA and those messages aren't answered, people get snippy, as if I or someone on this list, somehow, have a duty to answer questions about the FFA. I am not saying that you haven't done any research. I don't even know you. I am saying that on no other list, do I see these problems. An Internet list is just that, an Internet list. We try to make connections, and find others who have posted our families. Mara doesn't want help because she charges for her lists, and to make them available for no charge would defeat her purpose. This list is for the free sharing of genealogy information. 3. Just wanted you to know I was not looking for an easy out with my research, but if there is a chart with my family line in it then it would sure make life easier, and I think I am not alone there. I do look on the Internet for my family as well as National Archives, Court houses, books, and family history. You name it I have tried. Please don't think I want someone else to do my leg work for me. I am as willing as the next person to do my own research, and normally do to verify information I get on the Internet. If there are charts that will help me or others I do not see why we can not have access to them. I understand illness in the family as well as the next person, and I do have patience but when I see mention of the charts and FFA I too would like to be part of it. If my family is not there, fine. I would be more than happy to contribute my line to the FFA if I knew how to. I will be glad to look at other avenues for my research. If the Charts are so large maybe Mara could use some help with them as she has her hands full right now with her family. I would be happy to help her and I know there are several others who could pitch in as well. It is a lot of responsibility for one person to take on, even without a family illness. I did not mean to start a war over these charts, just wanted information that I have been having problems finding. I am sorry if I stepped on anyone's feet or ruffled their feathers. Carol H

    3. I understand these charts have been in the making for quite some time by the association. I started taking the magazine or newsletter, when published on time was quarterly. There are several people putting together these charts across the counrty. They are numbered and as they get too big others are created as branches. They have been in the newsletter for sale as they became completed with imfo that has been researched, imfo gathered from any other sources, and gathered from others sending into FFA. They have a library of imfo and as new imfo comes in or is reseached it is added to a chart or a new chart is created., to continue a line if or start another one when a connection to others at FFA can't be found at the time. I'm sure when things get back to normal again that the newsletter and the FFA link to a site, and the charts will be named and listed by number. You pick the chart with the ancestor you have connected to. There may be several charts of your direct line depending on the size. There are several Genealogy researchers putting these charts together so that each has certain lines from the beginning that they take care of. I don't remember off hand what the price was several yrs ago when I wanted one before they got so many as it was close to the early stages of this FFA project. Mara has traveled all over the world and USA, gathering French name and connections materials. for the lib. to be added and put into charts etc. I posted my Casandra ( Keziah ),French name b abt 1795, in Va. etc also sent Mara the picture I have of her at abt 90 yrs of age abt 9 yrs ago but she hasn't been found as yet. by me or anyone else as far as I have posted periodically the imfo I do have. I am still patiently waiting and hope some day I will find who her parents were. I can't see getting a chart until I find where Casandra is connected. Hope this helps some of you out there who are puzled about any of this. All my family is online at: http://members.aol.com/juliafwood/mypage This is chart # 184 or 187, I can't remember which. It begins with Samuel French in Anson County, NC in 1750>Samuel French, Jr., Rutherford Co., NC> Greeneville Co., SC>Wilkes Co., GA>Montgomery Co., TN>Gideon French, Stewart Co., TN>Henry & Carroll Co, TN. Henry Agusta French was the son of Gideon French. Most other lists, that I am on, rely on posting queries for finding other researchers of their line. They don't just sit and whine about Charts not being available. If you do a search of the Internet you may find that charts of your line have been posted, as well, as I have done, and have been very lucky in many of my surname searches. The French Family Association did not have my French line, and I have contributed it. There is never a guarantee that you won't have to do your own research. Julia French Wood
