Thanks from me too, Julia. Many months ago I was asked if I wanted to join the French project and I said yes, but never heard from anyone again. Would love to see the charts and add what I have. I have a unique descendancy from the first wife of William D. French, Ella Leora Mizner, who changed her one and only son's name from William to Reid when she divorced and married a Walter E. Reid. From that one John, there are many, many Reids that are really Frenches. Probably the most interesting is that Harry Reid, the U.S. Senator from Nevada is really a French. I'd love to share this with you. LInda Kay Mindream wrote: > > Thankyou Julia. Old? From my family records: Richard French was a 3x Congressman from Montgomery County. He was born June 20, 1792 and died May 1, 1854. He married Mary Taliaferro. His father, James, was at Valley Forge. He also went to William & Mary. He settled to Kentucky and was also a Judge there. James' parents were William and Winifried, both born in Ireland. They settled in the Prince William Co. & Stafford Co. area of Virginia. James' brother Stephen is my 4th great grandfather. -Suzanne French Keesler
The reason i ask is there were alot of cousins , siblings and others who ended up in Ohio from VT that were related to my John French. Micah Jr. etc. Hang in there as just as I was ready to give up a first cousin spotted my info on this list and It took off from there. Everytime I start to put genealogy aside things and people start popping out of nowhere. OH-ROLLCALL-L-request@rootsweb.com <OH-ROLLCALL-L@rootsweb.com> Have a wonderful New Year! keep in touch . James FRENCH II married Keziah CALLOWAY in 1783 in Boonesborough KY. They had a daughter named Theodosia, who married Dr. John HOOD and was the mother of Gen. John Bell HOOD. James and Keziah also had a son who was a judge and a member of Congress. He supposedly was the one who got John Bell HOOD his appointment into West Point military academy. Does anyone know what this son's name was? What is the ancestry of James FRENCH II? Vickie Elam White
Hugh French of Adair County, Ky was the son of Daniel French and his wife Mildred. Daniel was the son of Hugh French and Margaret Jarvis. Hugh was the son of Mason and his unknown first wife. Daniel and Mildred had sons John who married Dolly Spencer; James who married Barbara Key; Daniel who married Anne Guthrey; Hugh who married twice first to Ann then to Tempy; and Richard who married Dinah Greer. All of the brothers left the Bedford/ Franklin Co. VA area and migrated to Adair Co. From there they went to Indiana and Illinois with the exception of Hugh who remained in Adair.
The marriages of Frenches in Muskingum Co. Ohio are for the descendants of James Burgess French and Nancy Triplett. James was the son of Mason French of Loudoun C. Va died 1819. Mason was a Rev soldier and was at Valley Forge. He was the son of John French and Margaret Burgess. John died testate in Fauquier Co. 1806. He was the son of Mason French and Catherine Ellis [the wodow Bennett]. Mason was the son of Hugh French who immigrated to Maryland in 1663 and later came to Virginia where he died testate in 1701.
This Mason French was the son of Hugh French and his wife Margaret. They are on chart #36. If you descendant from Hugh and your name is still French then you are a descendant of this Mason French through either his son Hugh or his son John. Hugh had three sons and two daughters. His will is of record in Richmond Co. VA 1701. Mason died in 1746 intestate. His second wife Catherine {Ellis] Bennett died in 1757 or 9 . Mason had sons Robert and Hugh by his first wife and sons Mason, Daniel and John by Catherine Ellis. The record you found suggest that the Allen man must have committed a sexual act against someone who was helpless. Perhaps a woman or child although the phallic nature of what the men of the neighborhood did to his body suggest it might have been a homosexual act committed by Allen. The records of the court have been destroyed so we will never know for sure what the details on the part of the victim were. However the fact that the men involved were granted clemency suggest there was evidence to support the courts position. As to the Seale family Joyce Ellison Graf published a book The Seale Family from the Northern Neck of Virginia and Greene County, Alabama [Baltimore: Gateway Press, 1984] You may want to find a copy. Margaret Amundson a descendant of Hugh through Mason and his son John.
If only I did. He is my brick wall. My father seemed to think he was from Geauga, Ohio but I don't know why and I didn't get into genealogy until after he died so I never ask. The censuses just say he was born in Ohio. Thanks for wondering. Hi, I don't think that the Barzilla French I have run across is from my line but thought the information might help you. There is a Barzilla French who marries a Nancy Shield in Marion Co., IN. on 15 Jul 1832. I have seen other records on him in Indiana and his family but don't have them now because I determined he wasn't from my line. My line of Frenches is from John French (born 1814 in Ohio) who lived in Shelby, IN from about 1836 to his death in 1864. Good luck to you.
