Hi Mary Lou. This is also my family. Mary Rolfe b. 1755, d. 1786 was Noah French's first wife and their children were: Jemima b. 1772, Henry b. 1774, d. 1837; Sarah b. 1779 d. 1785; Eunice b. 1781 and Rolfe b. 1783 d. 1832. His second wife was Johanna Campbell b. 1760, m. abt 1778, d. 1846. They had these children: Mary b. 1787; John b.1789; Johanna b. 1798, Elias b. 1801, George b. 1803, Archibald Alexander b. 1791, Noah, Jr. 1794. Noah and Johanna had these children: Mary b. 1787, sp. George; John 1789 , sp. Abigail Freeman; Johanna, 1798, sp. Allen; Elias 1801, sp. Mary and George, 1803 sp. Sally. John (17i89) and his wife Abigail Freeman had a son, John French, b 1815 in New York. John married Charlotte REECH (or Leach). They had (1) Abigail Lorenza b. 1845, (2) Martha H. b. 1846 and (3) William DAniel b. 28 July 1848 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co. MI. William Daniel first married Ella Leora Mizner abt 1878 and had a son named John. John had quite an extensive descendany, but had changed his name to Reid when his father (William Daniel) marrried a younger women in England that he met while traveling there as a tobacco dealer. Her name was Sophia Anne Martin. I descend from John Reid or FRENCH. I don't believe John was ever officially adopted to change his name to Reid, as that marriage didn't last long, but all of his descendants use that name. It's a shame, because our cousin, Harry Reid, U.S. Senator from Nevada should really be Harry French! Harry and I played as cousins in the little gold mining town of Searchlight, Nevada where he grew up, and I lived in Las Vegas which is about 45 minutes away. I have the whole shebang of cousins, second cousins...You might want to take a second look at what I have. I do have certificates and pictures as well. I had to laugh when you said you didn't have William D. in your family. I would love to share anything that I have with you if you would like. While I go back as far as Noah French, Sr. b. 1754, d. 1843, I believe Noah's father was named William. Let me know if you would like me to send you anything. I have another Hugh French: Hugh Caperton French b/abt 1798 in Giles County, VA. d/bef Dec 1854 son of John A. French and Obedience Clay. Married 1st Levica (Lovey)Lumbert May 24 1820 and 2nd Rachel Fry Feb 26 1839 both in Giles County. He also had a son Hugh French, Jr. b/abt 1828 (NFI). My husband's descends from Hugh's son Daniel Lewis French born Feb 04 1839 (abt 2 weeks before the marriage of Hugh and 2nd wife Rachel). If all the dates are correct, we can't be sure who the mother of Daniel really is... Rachel or Levica. That is my family, but I'm sorry to say I don't go back any further than that. However, when you get down to William D. and wife Sophia Anne Martin, know that there is a first wife Ella Leora Mizner with whom he had a son, John, and that John had many descendants that all go by the name of Reid as he did. I have all of that information if you would like it. Linda Kay Steve Kraus wrote: > > Still searching for ancestry of: > Noah French, b. 2-28-1754 Morristown, NJ, d. 11-14-1843 Hermon NY > married 1. Have run into a wall of sludge - am stuck and would appreciate any help. Have a line of Frenches descending from two different ancestors. 1) my great uncle's genealogy, "Ancestors and Descendants of Samuel French The Joiner of Stratford CT", shows a line from The Joiner into a line as follows: SAMUEL FRENCH 2nd (The Joiner) 1687-1763 > JOSEPH FRENCH (11th child) 1730-1781> GIDEON FRENCH 1757-1837> EBENESER FRENCH 1796-1854 > SHELTON GIDEON FRENCH 1819-1898 . . . 2) a recently discovered source showing the entire line following Gideon FRENCH b 1757 d 1837 in Bradford Co PA with the exception that SHELTON GIDEON FRENCH left a Family Record saying, (in the first person), his great-grandfather was Gideon but but gg-grandfather was NATHAN FRENCH b Yorkshire England and his ggg-grandfather was NOAH FRENCH b Yorkshire England. There is no other information about this NATHAN or NOAH and this information comes from a transcribed diary of SHELTON GIDEON FRENCH. The exact transcription is as follows: "My great great grandfather, NOAH FRENCH was an Englishman born in Yorkshire, England where he lived and died. He was a tiller ofthe soil. My great grandfather NATHAN FRENCH was born there also and reaching his majority left his fatherland, and with many of his kinsman left England for the New World and settled in the then colony of Connecticut at a place called Stratford Point on the North Shore of Long Island Sound where he married and raised a family of whom my grandfather was his eldest son. He was also a tiller of the soil. My grandfather, GIDEON FRENCH on reaching his majority settled in Litchfield Township, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. He was born in1757 and died January 20, 1837, aged 80 years. He married EUNICE SHELTON and raised a family of four boys and one girl as follows: . . . Bill French Houston TX wcfrench@compuserve.com

Know Samuel FRENCH was born in Kentucky as Mary Ann French BRUNER (my GGGrandmother) stated this on the census. Here is the obit of Hulda FRENCH Pro: PRO, Hulda; "August 8, 1888--Mrs. Hulda PRO died last Thursday of hemmorage of lungs--78 years. Her maiden name was FRENCH. She was born and raised on the old French farm in Northwest Twp. Mother of John & George PRO, Mrs. Miller GHERKIN & Mrs. Henry GROSS. So the Huldy FRENCH who married Andrew BOWLES was not the Hulda who married a PRO as she "died" a PRO. Does anyone on the list have info on any of these other FRENCH people so we could "sort" them out? Thanks, Jan Lund -----Original Message----- From: T.
