    3. Hi All, I ran across these items today while I was researching my North Carolina Frenches. For the ones that are listed as being at the Atlanta Public Library, I will try to get down there next week to research them and will post what I find. I am including the addresses for the Dallas and Allen Public Libraries. A cousin of mine who is researching other lines has written them on several occasions and they are very responsive about sending the information that they have. You may want to give them a call or check the website on how to order information from them. Scroll down to read the detail information about each of the items. 1. name origin surname Lefferts to given name Leffert etc.
    2. Common surname for Netherlands= Lefferts Lefferts surname found in NY, NJ, PA 1600's, 1700 Lefferts is probably the origin of the given names Leffert, Lefferd, Lefford, Lafford etc. Perhaps the FRENCH given name Lefferd came from Allee's family surname. Since records on Joseph FRENCH and wife Allee don't appear in Quaker minutes perhaps we should look into the records of the Dutch settlers of East NJ. We see close association between William FRENCH and Leffert SEABRING [SEBRING] in Middlesex County NJ when William FRENCH married Antie SEABRING in Dec 1742. Some researchers report Leffert Sebring, b. abt 1706, Raritan, Huntudon, NJ with parents Johannes Sebring and Aeltje Leffertse. Netherlands: Given names include Allia, Aeltie, Aeltje, Aelke. Could one of these names become "Allee"?

Julia, Thank you for pointing this out......I personally have to apologize for getting a little frustrated because I felt I was being looked over and I know I am not as far along as alot are on my FRENCH family, but I recently started the research and was hoping to find something to go on to make sure I am in the right direction....I feel I am, but it takes awhile as you know to get documents through the mail system. I am sorry to disrupt the room and I will keep quiet and just watch and hope that spark you mentioned will happen for me. I apologize to all. 1. Wear Red on Friday for a VERY GREAT CAUSE!!
    2. frenchs1
    3. Wear Red on Friday! Till it's over over there! Wish I could take credit for this idea, but it's not mine. Please plan to do this EVERY Friday until we are able to bring all our victorious troops home. Quite a few Americans support our troops, but as usual, we are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to really reflect who we are, nor our opinions. Start a grass roots movement using the membership of the groups you associate with, your e-mail bud's etc.to support our troops. The idea is not to stand on street corners once or twice, not to carry signs in a rally, not to carry our flag in parades. Its much simpler than that. We need to inform the local VFW's and American Legion, our local press, local TV, and even continue carrying the message up to the national levels as we start to get this going. The idea to show our solidarity and support for our troops is that starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, that we and every red blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED. Word of mouth, press, TV, lets see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at the University of Oklahoma or University of Nebraska. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow Christians, fellow workers, country club friends, neighbors, I guarantee you that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - much to the disdain of the un-American folk! Lets get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays. Thanks for your time and consideration of this proposal. I intend to send this out to everyone on my e-mail list; hopefully you will too. PS. The red tag on a pair of levi's is the absolute minimum, we are not all westerners! Dick Please forward this to everyone you know!! This ought to be easy for you "e clampus" folks)

    1. William FRENCH, RW-SC Soldier
    2. All, William FRENCH apparently was a quiet man and didn't create much wake in his life. We do know that he participated in the RW, lived on the North Pecolet River in SC, went to KY, then TN where he died in 1808. We know he had brothers, Lafford, Joseph and Simon. His children are known in part: Jane, Hugh, John, Sarah, Hannah, Mary and Susan. We don't know when or where he was born, who he married, anything about her, or where they are buried. I would like to correspond with anyone who has an interest in this William FRENCH. Best regards, Hugh

    3. GM All, Since the Lafford talk has been put on hold for a minute, I would like to ask once again about Gideon W. French born March 27 1837 in Stewart County TN. Does anyone have info on he and Rebecca BUTTS children? I am interested in all of them, but especially George E. which was born January 1862 in Danville TN. He married Emma 'Etta' Hall on February 2 1884 in Houston Co. TN She was the dau of the Stewart County TN Trustee John W. HALL and wife Jane. John ran two-2 yr terms and died in his second term and Mr. RUSHING took over the rest of the term. I don't have alot of info on their children but here is just a little, Elizabeth b., ABT. 1861 Stewart County TN George E. b., January 1862 d., Charleston Missouri Mary Anna b., June 11 1864 Stewart County TN d., December 2 1949 Calif m., Edward Scholes William ABT. 1865 Thomas ABT. 1868 Elnora ABT 1880 By 1880 Gideon W. married L.T. on March 4 1878 (I believe her to be CARTER maybe) children listed on Census as George E. William Thomas Emaline Joseph J.C. A.E. I am not as far as the group in my family research and for that I apologize, but I would appreciate it if someone....anyone has any detailed info on these children. According to the census I've seen, 3 children were born between the 1870 & 1880 census. They are Joseph age 7 J.C age 6 and A.E. 10/12. It is most likely A.E. was born to the new couple, but Joseph and J.C. are questionable. Did they belong to another marriage of L.T.? Or were they Gideon and Rebecca's? I only have that Rebecca was the dau of Nathaniel BUTTS & Rebecca COOK and that she was b., ABT 1839 in MO and I have no DOD on her. Again, I'm sorry to keep asking about this particular FRENCH family, but I seem to be over-looked when I ask. Can our FRENCH experts please answer any of this for me? I really really would appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Have a great day! We now are hearing about weather across the country on the FRENCH-List without any FRENCH content. It is a wonderful thing to watch, although it takes up time deleting the messages as non productive to the purpose of the FRENCH-List. The human mind apparently gravitates to the weather when there is nothing else to say. Someone should make a study, perhaps with a government grant, so that the mental process can be understood as to why a genealogical forum is used to give weather reports. Incidentally weather here in northern Virginia is normal for the season. Best regards, Hugh
