    1. Re: [FRENCH-L] Henry County French locations
    2. My wife is Sandra Kay French. Her parents were Hal Lee French and Thelma Bernice Wadlow. Hal Lee's parents were William Warren French (went by Warren W.) and Della Mercenia Wood. William Warren's parents were William W. French and Mary Lois Eastwood. Mary Lois was born to Robert Eastwood and Angeline N. Lankford. They lived in Conyersville, TN next to Puryear in Henry County. William W and Mary Lois married in Puryear 2/9/1890 in Henry County. Their son, my wife's grandfather, William Warren French was born in Puryear 7/15/1895. I believe that William W. French, b. Abt 1866, was the son of Gideon W. French and Rebecca Jane Butts. They lived in Stewart County in the 1870 census (its spelled Giden in the census). I do subscribe to Ancestry.com census. Since I don't know where the districts are physically located in Henry County, I don't know which of the French's lived nearest to Conyersville. I'm assuming that William W. either moved in with one of his Henry County relatives and met his wife, or he visited his relatives and met his wife. Although not necessarily, I'm assuming proximity to Conyersville might help. They gave one of their sons the name of Ab Spurgeon. I don't know why nor do I know what became of him. I'm assuming that Ab might stand for Absalom. There was an Absalom Green French in Henry County. Spurgeon is also a name of a famous family of Baptist ministers in England. If anyone could help on this I would appreciate it. John

There is a pop-up menu for 'towns' which gives a list of the divisions used. Displays 65 FRENCH names for Henry Co. TN. This includes children & parents. Census Records - Enumeration Districts U.S. Federal Census records are divided into groups by state, then county, and in many cases by townships and enumeration districts as well. Enumeration districts are subdivisions used by census takers and other governmental representatives to further break down the geography of a given area beyond the county and/or township level. Browsing the census records by enumeration district allows a researcher to see their ancestor in context of their closest neighbors. You may learn additional information about your ancestor by observing their neighbors over a succession of several years. I will look through them, Judith -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 3:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [FRENCH-L] Henry County French locations Does anyone know which French families were near District 14 (Puryear) in Henry County during the 1880's? 3. Here is a follow-up on 1840 Moses, 1850. I do not know if family the same. This one could have lost two children since there is four or some left? The Moses H through out the NJ census belongs to my family and stayed there, his parents are: Willis French and Hannah Hetfield grandparents David French Sr. and Sarah Wilcox. The ones I am posting I do not know about with some being born there too. Name: Moses French Age: 43 Estimated Birth Year: 1806 Birth Place: New Jersey Gender: Male Home in 1850 (City,County,State): Mill, Tuscarawas, Ohio Page: 306 Roll: M432_735 This one shows wife Jane 43, children Alexander, Mary, William and Eliza ages 20, 19, 17, 15 Name: French, Moses Township: Rush County: Tuscarawas State: Ohio Year: 1840 Roll: M704_430 Page: 344 Image: 165 It shows males: 1 1 1 _ _ 1 which means 1 male child under age 5 years, 1 male child between 5-10, 1 male child between 10-15, then skips two columns to 1 male between 30-40. Then in the next part for females it shows: 2 1 _ _ _ 1 which means 2 female children under 5, 1 female child 5-10, skips 3 columns then 1 female between age 30-40. Possible conclusion: Father and Mother, born between 1800 or 1810, have 6 children between ages 5 to 15. I do not understand the mark of Kezia what it says so do not know where born but will look at another census. Martha A 19, Mahala Blind 17, Daniel 12, shows Pursley family as laboror Now to add on to this one: Name: Moses French Age in 1860: 61 Birthplace: New Jersey Home in 1860: Rochester, Fulton, Indiana Gender: Male Value of real estate: View image Post Office: Rochester Roll: M653_260 Page: 721 Year: 1860 Head of Household: Moses French Household The state born changes on it for some of the children. 3. Judith- My predecessors lived in Rush for awhile & in, Tuscarawas from 1820-1850 before moving to Perry Co. IL. I think that this is part of my Family ( 2nd great grandfather). My Moses was born in 1809 ,christened at the Walpack, Sussex NJ. Church. The 2 boys should be my grandfather William and his 2 older brothers Alexander & ... . I cannot think of the girls names off the top of my head this AM either . Dick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith J.
