Hi, I am reserching the French Family, (England & Wales) John Edwards Wales UK
Yes! Then, anybody have a FRENCH from Wales/England in mid-1800's? Sandra Shaw/Schoch Hartwick
I am looking at John French Thomason, the youngest son of William THOMASON of Tennessee and his wife, Sarah. Of particular interest is John's middle name, FRENCH. William had another son named Daniel whose wife was Mary Jane DENTON. Mary Jane was the d/o John and Jane (French) DENTON. This means the only FRENCH relative in the pedigree of John French THOMASON was his brother's wife's mother (no blood). Another possibility is that there was a Hugh FRENCH, neighbor to the THOMASONs and the DENTONs in Warren Co., TN in 1812. John French THOMASON wasn't born until 1818. This might reflect a strong friendship among the FRENCH, THOMASON and DENTON families. By 1829 Daniel and Mary (Denton) THOMASON and her parents, John and Jane (French) DENTON went to AR while John French THOMASON settled in AL where he subsequently married and died. An unknown may play a role. William THOMASON's wife's surname is unknown. She is only known as Sarah. William FRENCH had a daughter named Sarah, but she married John ELLEDGE. There may have been other FRENCHs with a daughter, Sarah, though I have found none in my data. None of these theories is very substantial. Any thoughts? Best regards, Hugh

Hugh, If you go to the DNA website and click on "Test Results by Matches", then click on the Name "Thomas" which is the first one in aqua, it will show the lineage. The names in the matches chart are always the earliest know ancestor. http://dnafrench.tripod.com/ Julia In a message dated 7/28/2004 6:48:55 AM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Julia, Looking at the DNA display at <http://dnafrench.tripod.com/dna/id10.html> I read that there are about 8 matches which includes Thomas of NJ, but no Lafford, Sr. is listed. Hi Mara, Could you tell me if there is a chart including Frenches from the New England states? My Frenches came from England to Canada (Eaton Corners, Qubec CA.) to NH,Vt,MA,and some to RI. I have never run into charts before, so don't know just how they are set up. Thank you, Donna in RI

Richard Day writes: "John J. French was born July 22, 1788 in New York. Some census records indicate he was born in New Hampshire or Vermont. His obituary said New York. In some records, his middle initial is a "T" or an "I". He married a MARY ACKERMAN (born March 4, 1792 in New York) on June 22, 1808 in New York. I have not found this marriage record. In 1810, he joined the Masonic Order in NYC." Richard, Have you checked with the NYC Masonic Lodge to see if they have any information on your John J. French? I was able to obtain information through the Masonic Lodge in Ireland and in Washington Co. PA relating to one of my ancestors--1700 and early 1800's. Not sure what information they will have, but it might help. It would be interesting to know how many FRENCH's belonged prior to the time your John joined in 1810. -----Original Message----- From: Richard Day [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 10:34 PM
I was studying the DNA results -- is there only the one person (family group #116) who has been tested that traces their ancestors back to Thomas FRENCH the immigrant from Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire?
All these discussions on the French mailing list has encouraged me to post my query for assistance once more. I'm sure there is someone out there listening in who comes from the same line and may have information which could help me get past my "brick wall". John J. In 1810, he joined the Masonic Order in NYC. He served in the War of 1812. In 1817, he and his wife and one son, JEFFERSON A. FRENCH, left New York for southern Indiana. They settled in Dearborn county and were listed in census records living in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana, until about 1830. At that time they relocated to near Rising Sun, Indiana. At that time, it was in Dearborn county, but later was in Ohio county when it was formed from Dearborn. John French was a fairly well to do farmer. He was a member of the M.E. Church where he was baptized in 1839. He died on April 23, 1874. He and Mary had a large family. Those which I have identified are as follows: Jefferson A. ( served in Civil War); William; Indiana; George Washington; John S.; Lafayette Porter; James; Mary; Loring; and at least two unknown daughters. I know this is a long winded message, but I am hoping that someone out there might recognize something and provide some information which will help me identify my French branch. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate a male French from my line to participate in the DNA project. Thanks for any and all help. Richard Day ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith J. I have removed you from the list, however, I find it interesting that you think that it is, somehow, everyone on the FRENCH list's fault that you are subscribed. I wonder how you figured out how to do it and I wonder that you didn't think you would be getting mail when you subscribed.
