    1. William M. French in Indiana
    2. Eleanor and Al Maass
    3. While searching for William French (1804-1850) in Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN I found William M. French in the 1840 US Census for IN in Dearborn County along with a George French. By 1850 US Census for IN William M. had moved to Jefferson Co. while George was still in Dearborn Co., IN I have assumed that William M and George were brothers - is there any information? Thanks Al.

    2. List, Is anyone researching the FRENCH line that lived in McKinney, Collin County, TX in the late 1900's? They have a son Jonathan FRENCH. J French -----Original Message----- From: EDWARD A SCRIVEN [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, August 01, 2004 10:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [FRENCH-L] Robert Walter FRENCH I am again trying to find the elusive parents of Robert Walter FRENCH. He was born 22 Jul 1873 or 1876 (cannot confirm) in Missouri. Cannot find place. He lists his father's birth as Missouri and his mother's in Tennessee in one place, but on the 1930 Census he says they were both born in Tennessee. He married Emma Johanna Charlotty BERGENER in San Francisco on 5 Mar 1905. They had 2 children: Molly and Roy Walter. They divorced. I believe he married a Harriet Austin and may have had a daughter Bernice Estelle. He died in Albany, Alameda, California 11 Apr 1930. If anyone has information on him please contact me.

    3. That's a good question. According to his obit, he was born July 22, 1788 in New York, but I have also seen census records which state he was born in New Hampshire or Vermont. As I may have stated, I've also got questions about his middle name. In census records, I've seen it as an "I", a "J", and a "T". handwriting is not as easy to read all the time on the PC.... 1. Re: [FRENCH-L] William French of Billerica, MA
    2. Jon, about your first statement. "The possible connection of William #123 to Jacob #126" it is not a "possible connection" it is an absolute connection. DNA does't lie. To have only one mutation between them in all those generations means that the two participants have an ancestor in common. In case of your Jacob's. I, rarely, see one of those old verbal records that doesn't have some errors, but there could have been Jacobs in lines that weren't followed and everyone descended from the line doesn't have to be from the seventh Jacob, but could be from another brother of any upline. If I were you, I would order the DNA test kit and pay a visit to your 80 year old last living French male. Talk to him. Share your genealogy charts and research. Show him the DNA charts. Let him know how important he is to your search and proof. Show him how easy the test is (a simple brushing of the inner cheek) and tell him that it will be identified by a number and not his name. I am sure he will consent to do the test. BTW, the instructions say to do each cheek with 8 hours between samples, but I have done them at the same time and have gotten good results. Sometimes you can't be there 8 hours later. Just be sure they haven't had anything to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes before taking the sample. Good luck. Julia French Wood In a message dated 8/3/2004 9:36:04 AM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: The possible connection of William FSdna #123 to Jacob French FSdna #126 (which certainly appears as a distinct possibility) intrigues me. I believe my FRENCH link stems from William FRENCH b 18 Jul 1668, Billerica, MA, as follows: William, Jacob, Jacob, Jacob, Asa Mason, Lucina m. Alonzo WHITNEY, Ernest WHITNEY, Kenneth Whitney, Jonathan WHITNEY. In my grandmother's meticulous records, she states, "There is a verbal record that there were seven Jacob Frenchs in a direct and unbroken line (origin unknown) which ended in the Jacob recorded in the obituary of his son on the opposite page." If that statement is true, William does not fit in my line, however, he may have had a brother named Jacob, son of Jacob, son of Jacob FSdna #126, or some other connection. The coincidence of the first name Jacob is not something I can take lightly. My three Jacobs seem to be correct, as does the link to William, but this doesn't account for the family "verbal record" of seven Jacobs in a row. My documentation for Jacob being the son of William came from Henry Hazen's book on the history of Billerica. Of course, this may not be correct, but the three Jacobs down to Asa Mason are pretty well documented through several related families. Do any Listers have any related information or suggestions? As far as I know there is only one male FRENCH living from my last Jacob and he is in his 80s and not in good health and apparently unwilling to take the DNA test. Thanks for any assistance or suggestions. Jon Whitney

    3. Hello all, and thank you Jeff While looking trying to find the reference to Alexander French, I found a marriage in July 1815 conducted by "Rev. Mr. French". It is the only reference to him on the marriage list. As "my" Richard French family lived in Washington County in 1810-1819 I am quite intrigued by this entry. Has anyone on the board encountered other references to a Rev. Mr. French in this time frame? thank you Dick French ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 02, 2004 2:04 PM Subject: [FRENCH-L] PA- FRENCH, of Rev War, & descendants > Names include Alexander, Enoch, George, Enoch, John Calvin, Mary Porter. > Includes picture of John Calvin. > > Beers, J. 3. I am again trying to find the elusive parents of Robert Walter FRENCH.

    2. Hi everyone, My notes are not right in front of me now, but does any one know about a modern day Hannah Dustin French from NH? She did not marry it appears as she is is called Miss French. She was concidered an expert on bookbinding in the 1800's;wrote many articles and one book on the subject. She held a position at Wesley Collage in Mass as head of the rare books collection. I don't have her dates in front of me, but she died in 1993 or96 as an eldery lady. I am related to the original Hannah Dustin who fought off an Indian attack on Mass settlers. Thanks, Donna
