She married first Richard Evans Jr. he was born in 1620 and died in 1693. Their children were Jonathan, Richard III, Rebecca, Ann, and Sarah. Sarah was born 30 Aug 1693. Three months after her father's death. Sarah married a first cousin John Evans, she married Dr. John Thigpen Jr next. See That Thigpen Tribe. Jonathan was born in 1672. Richard in 1673, Rebecca in 1675, Ann in 1675 ? or 77. There is a Transportation of Person's form that says the eldest children were all born before 15 Aug 1678. Jonathan was probably born in 1670, Richard III in 1673, Rebecca in 1675, and Ann in 1677. Old Albemarle County Perquimans Precinct NC Births, Marriages, Deaths & Flesh Marks says Richard III in 1683, Rebecca and Ann born in 1685. One research even told me Rebecca was born in 1688. Elizabeth Evans married James Oates in 11 Sept 1694. They were married by Dep. Gov. Thomas Harve. James died in 1703, and she married Richard French in 1705. Ann is the daughter of Richard Jr. and Elizabeth Evans. She died in 1700. Richard and Elizabeth Evans had the following children, Jonathan, Richard, Rebecca, Ann, and Sarah. The first four are named in Richard Evans Jr.'s will in June 1693. Sarah was born three months later 30 Aug 1693. Jonathan, and Sarah died in Chowan County. Richard III's will was probated in Beaufort County in 1752. I have not located information on Rebecca and Ann yet except Ann's death. Hi Jeanette, I have done years of research in Craven Co., NC and I don't know if you transcribed that or if you got it from a book, but that is most likely Martin FRANKS, not FRENCH. Forget to say that Albemarle was an original North Carolina County beginning in 1664. From it was formed Chowan in 1670, Perquimans in 1679, and Currituck and Pasquotank in 1681. So it is likely, that Thomas of Albemarle in 1696 could be the father, son or brother of Richard who died in 1712 in Perquimans. Julia

Scott, French Listers, Although this is not my direct line, Private (Revolutionary War) William French, born 25 January 1713 of Billerica, MA, (with spouse Tabitha Pierce of Chelmsford, MA) is the son of William French, born 8 August 1687, Billerica, Middlesex, MA and who dies 25 February 1745/46 in Billerica. He married Mehitable Patten, she born 28 February 1687 in Billerica and dies 15 January 1743, Billerica. I believe William was also a Sergeant though, obviously, not in the Revolutionary War. Edythe R. Whitley, was doing nothing more than reading the census, just as we all have. She didn't even know that Susannah was Susannah nee Barnes, the widow of Samuel C. Franch, brother of Gideon. Julia French Wood In a message dated 6/20/2006 10:15:28 PM Central Standard Time, CatchesTheWind@aol.com writes: Hello, This is a article I found: Early Tennessee Settlers, 1700's-1900's: Henry County "Old Timer Stuff" Prominent Citizens on Civil Districts by Edythe R. In the same community nearby resided Susannah French age 55 born in South Carolina, who appears to have been a widow with a family of Wm. J. age 23, A.J. age 18, Kezziah age 16 and Mary age 14 all born in Tennessee. The relationship of these two families is not at present known." Edythe R. Whitley has done genealogical books on several different counties.
Rebecca's father, was most likely, Henry Anderson, who was in Logan Co., KY when Rebecca was born there in 1788, and In Montgomery Co., TN at the same time that Samuel French was there in the late 1700s and early 1800s, before Gideon and Rebecca were married in Stewart Co., TN which was formed from Montgomery. Gideon and Rebecca Anderson French named their second son, Henry. The first was Samuel after Gideon's father and second Henry after Rebecca's father, according to English naming patterns. Henry Anderson's father was Timothy Anderson. If memory serves me, Timothy was the son of Cornelius Anderson of NJ. Julia French Wood In a message dated 6/20/2006 10:15:28 PM Central Standard Time, CatchesTheWind@aol.com writes: Now for another question... does anyone know who Rebecca's parents are?
Hello, This is a article I found: Early Tennessee Settlers, 1700's-1900's: Henry County "Old Timer Stuff" Prominent Citizens on Civil Districts by Edythe R. Whitley has done genealogical books on several different counties. And it is this persons opnion that Gideon was born in Georgia, as listed in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census. I can see that is would be questionable if the above 3 census years had different states of birth, but they do not. So I am assuming that Gideon must have known where he was born or at least was told by his parents his place of birth. So if the census records were wrong, it would have possibly been on the part of either Gideon or Rebecca French and not the census taker since they used differnet census takers for the 1850 Henry County, 7th Civil District, Tennessee was taken by T. Cooney, Ass't Marshal 1860 Carroll County, District 17, Tennessee was taken by J. M Gilbert Jr, Ass't Marshal 1870 Carroll County, District 17, Tennessee was taken by G. J. Falkner, Ass't Marshal Both 1860 and 1870 was in the township of Marlborough. If we question anyone my guess would be Rebecca's, since the 1850 listed her as being born in Kentucky, 1860 listed her as being born in Tennessee and 1870 listed her as being born in Kentucky. Whereas Gideon French has always been listed as being born in Georgia. It might be possible that Samuel sent his wife to Georgia away from the war to keep her and her children and unborn child safe from harm.. or it could be possible that Samuel might not have been Gideon's father at all. I am open to all options and I am also open to Gideon having different parents other than Samuel. Unless I find proof postive that Samuel is actually Gideon's father. Now for another question... does anyone know who Rebecca's parents are? Thank You Mary
