I can get to my website with the link below, but it has "Not secure" by the URL. Also I've filled out the request to change password numerous times, and it shows the 15 min waiting time, but I've not received a response. I'm using the same e-mail address as with this e-mail and no it's not in my Spam folder. I would appreciate suggestion as to what to do.http://sites.rootsweb.com/~sybleg/ Thanks,Syble
Syble, I have found in the process of making a couple of my other sites secure, that links that are http can cause the site to show as not secure. I made a concentrated effort to make changes in three sites so far so that they show as secure but it can be a lot of work. Relative links seem to work best. On absolute links to other sites I Had to make sure that the site could be reached by changing http to https. Some do not. Not sure if it is worth the effort if you are not collecting money or other information. Pat Geary, I did change http to https and the "Not Secure" is now gone, so I'm assuming everything is okay, but I've still not been able to change my password, the password change form see to be okay, I just never receive the e-mail to actually change it. I did write to Anne, but until I'm able to change the password, I'm concerned about trying to update anything on my website. I'm just so happy to have it up again. Thanks again for all your help.Syble On Monday, August 6, 2018, 10:27:26 AM CDT, Patricia Geary <patgeary@comcast.net> wrote: Syble, I have found in the process of making a couple of my other sites secure, that links that are http can cause the site to show as not secure. Syble, your connection to sites.rootsweb.com/~syble/ doesn't have to be secure because you are not exchanging any sensitive or private information such as passwords. You are simply viewing the files you have uploaded to your account, just like any other visitor to your site. So it makes no difference if you view them via http:// (unsecured) or https:// (unsecured). sftp:// on the other hand, stands for Secure File Transfer Protocol and is a secure connection to the server so your login information and the files you are transferring are encrypted. When you connect to a server, your connection is routed through multiple hubs (computers) on the way. Encryption (sftp://) prevents unencrypted user names, passwords, and files from lying around on those interim computers between you and the servers at rootsweb.com So, if you have a password that works for uploading your files, there is no need to change it over security concerns. https://sites.rootsweb.com/~sybleg/ (with the s after http) shows it's secure. The server does not automatically redirect to the secure version. Do you have another email address you might have used when you registered your site? If you used another email address, and you can no longer receive mail at that address, you will need to write to annerootsweb@gmail.com to get your account registration updated. However, Anne has very limited availability this week, so it may be a while before you hear back from her. Pat A.
