Kathy asked: ".. what the maximum file size is for any single file that is allowed to be uploaded to a freepages website. I'm trying to upload a video I've made and the ftp transfer keeps on timing out." Most video files are very large, especially if they also have sound. Every second of video represents multiple images, each of megabyte size. They strain bandwidth and server capacity. FreePages is trying its hardest to warn you away from putting video on your site. From http://rootsweb.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3223/kw/allowed%20file% 20types/session/L3RpbWUvMTQ0NTUzNzM2MC9zaWQvY242bERCem0%3D, titled "Extensions available to use on web account pages": ".. large image, video and audio files are not allowed there." And, from http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index.cgi?op=show&page=freagree.htm: "8. FreePages accounts may NOT be used for file storage - whether it is MP3 files, zip files, video files, huge images files, etc. Accounts that are being used in this manner will be closed." A suggestion is to upload the video to a site that does accept video files (e.g., YouTube) and put a link to it on your Freepages site. Just remember not to run afoul of: "7. FreePages accounts may NOT be used only as a redirect to sites off of RootsWeb." That is, you'll need content on the page other than the link. BTW, you can get the filename extension by searching for the filename (without the extension) in Windows Explorer. -rt_/)
