I see even the help list is getting spammed. Curious thing. When Rootsweb was down, the spam in my inbox dropped to almost zero. Now that they are back up, it has increased dramatically! My Virus protection (AVAST) says some of them have viruses! What gives??? Does Rootsweb have a disgruntled employee somewhere?? Is anyone else having this problem?? Tanks all and have a great day. Hi, I've noticed the spm-g, but suspect it's just that from time to time one or a group of people discover the help list and think, great, hundreds of e-addresses to exploit. It's not the first time it's happened. I think also the spmrs realise quickly that they're wasting their time and efforts. Just press del - but don't put it in the spm bin as I did once or twice: one is automatically thrown off the list!!! If you mark RootsWeb mail as spam, then your ISP will refuse to deliver it and send a bounce notice to RootsWeb. You will bounce off when ever the bounce threshold for the particular list is reached. Is anyone else having this problem?? Jim, There are really only two ways you can get sp*m from a RootsWeb server: 1) You are a list admin and the mail is being sent to your Admin address, or 2) A member of a list has let their computer be hacked, and it is being used to send out sp*m or malware unknown to them. In the first case, mail sent to admins is not filtered because one of admin's jobs is to help members understand and how to deal with sp*m. In case #2, someone has probably opened an unexpected attachment, even though they have been warned not to open attachments from people they don't know. Sp*mrs have become much more sophisticated and emails containing malware can LOOK legitimate. On this list, a member whose computer has been compromised is immediately unsubscribed so they can not continue to send mails to the list, and they are not allowed to resubscribe until they verify that their computer has been cleaned.
