When Barry Carlson helped me with my freepages "genealogy" site, I spent a year converting the "genealogy" and "family" sites. Other than problems with nested lists, overall it turned into a pleasant change (though with lots of hard work). I couldn't have gotten past typing my name without Barry, Pat G, Pat A, Ralph and others on this list. I took the last several months off for a well-deserved css/html vacation. But now I'm ready to tackle my PAGenWeb site. I've tried before and failed. So, hat in hand, could someone help me over the first hurdle? I figured if I used Barry's css from "genealogy", it'd be easiest to plug in images and colors, *especially* because that css file contains the Mobile code and ALL the table types and do-dads I'd need to build any website. BUT-- I am already lost trying to do the 3-border layout. What I'm trying to mimic --- Of all the color combos tried before *without external CSS), I like the layout and colors the best on this non-css page::: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/migration-biographies/ohio/mahoning-co-ohio/boardman/reed_james.htm I don't like how table (border) #3 (innermost) leaves so much exposed border on Table-Border #1. I do like the thinness of the hint of border between outermost and innermost. Just trying to deconstruct this page, I get lost. I feel stupid, but here's the first question--- What IS the image filename or color hex# used for the centermost content area on the page url I gave above? that light pinkish color... No matter what I pick from the code, I can't identify the right thing. And I can't get it to display from the new css file. Second, does that image or color get plugged into table 3 for content area? And, just where in the css do I plug it in? What line am I looking for?? Could someone explain just what we did to get that thin border on the 2nd inner border, between 1-outermost and 3-content? And, how do I get less space showing on the outermost border, so content is wider? I'm getting lost between all the css-attempted files. Worse, I have some files from before already attached to x.css and some to xx.css files that were attempted in the past. I really want to get this site cleaned up, reorganized, and converted so I can just add content. I'll upload the new page and new css tomorrow evening after I delete some old files from online.
