The domain is the same, i.e. rootsweb.com, but they are working on bringing back the various subdirectories (symlinked to sub-domains) at Freepages (history_html, family_html, misc_html, etc.) They are probably symlinking freepages.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ to sites.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ which is what they did before when freepages.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/genealogy/ was symlinked to freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ so it appeared you had separate URLs for each of your account subdirectories, if you chose to use them. Filezilla connects via FTP instead of HTTP, and an FTP address may be somewhat different. For example, the old FTP address for Freepages was users.freepages.rootsweb.com. Until they finalize the new URLs for Freepages, I wouldn't change page links or your FTP settings. I am sure Anne will let us know when they have everything in place. Pat Asher
Thanks Pat. They sure are symlinked I just did a small change and can see it on sites and freepages. I can only FTP using Sites. users.freepagesĀ goes nowhere. Will sites.rootsweb remain as FTP etc? Problem with links on my banner menus is that I made them Absolute. I am looking at changing and simplifying so I can use relative. BTW the link at bottom of email to archive does not work Unsubscribe and Archives https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/search/freepages-help https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/details?list_name=freepages-help Thank You from Ron Lankshear http://sites.rootsweb.com/~lankshear On 26/08/2018 12:32 am, Pat Asher wrote: > They are probably symlinking > freepages.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ to > sites.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ > which is what they did before when > freepages.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/genealogy/ was > symlinked to > freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lankshear/ so > it appeared you had separate URLs for each of > your account subdirectories, if you chose to use > them. > > Filezilla connects via FTP instead of HTTP, and > an FTP address may be somewhat different. There is a problem for those of us who have different types of accounts with the same account name, e.g. I have both a homepages and a freepages account and both use the account name ~pasher. So, when I make an FTP connection to sitesuser.rootsweb.com/~pasher/ I can only connect to one account, presently only my homepages account. The other problem is freepages URLs going to the various subdirectories within the account, and coming up with an FTP connection that allows access to all of them. Anne and her team are aware of both problems and are working on it, but have not notified of us of their solution. >Problem with links on my banner menus is that I made them Absolute. >I am looking at changing and simplifying so I can use relative. Absolute links have their uses. I use them on some sites so a single nav menu works at any directory level within the account. With the potential for URL changes at Freepages, I'm waiting to see what they come up with :) >BTW the link at bottom of email to archive does not work >Unsubscribe and Archives >https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/search/freepages-help > >https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/details?list_name=freepages-help Unfortunately, that is something I can not change. It is hard coded by the software and List Admins have no control over it. Anne's team will have to change that. Pat Asher
