Still having trouble with tables. I stripped out padding but the table is still fatty-celled with default (I read at W3 schools) of center, which is not what I want. And do tables need valign="top" or can I remove those? Lastly, if I just get the tables copied to new pages, can I *easily* come back later to get the tables to stop being fatty-celled? Judy
Judy, check your style sheet and make sure you don't have default styles for your tables besides the specialized ones. Yes, thin, single text cells that can expand if text needs a 2nd line. I previously named the triple border page layout as table1 and table2 in CSS and the tag in html The only other table is table#search in the CSS Barry did. The html.for that is in an _include. I temporarily moved all of Barry's tables to a separate file until I get the problem figured out. Just noticed table.histPops is still in the CSS. I can't see the problem, especially with being new to Ext CSS. Ideally, it would help me if I had some Ext CSS "Tablea" (Table A) for skinny multiple cells at 100% width so I can do search-replace on table and change them all to tablea. At least I hope so because I'm to the point that I'm just going to copy every table to the new pages and let the tables look funky. :-( I like your table example or this https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.w3schools.com_html_tryit.asp-3Ffilename-3Dtryhtml-5Ftable-5Fheadings-5Fleft&d=DwIBaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=AGsq94QXfKqnOmeiylQOdyiSx1pxsPac8QlHnLzZS9o&m=HdJDugsiH4NRjUdhDUcB8YWbc-91Xl-41PSefDXYVzw&s=943mvbb-Gyhx9qo-OFuhb5g3jToKJqYt3V9AD4KXSqE&e= Judy
So can I zap the 300+ instances of valign="top" on existing tables? I realize middle is default but it's already displaying as middle anyway.
If each cell is going to have the exact same amount of text in it (no more than one line, then yes I suppose you can skip it. If not, then you need the vertical align so that all text is at the top rather than the default of the middle. Which is why it is easier for me to use css but then I have very few tables. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/judy-table-example.html This is NOT how I would normally style tables. It is just an example of how it would look. Judy, I suppose you could do something like this http://sites.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/judy-table-example2.html where you add the width of the cells to the table markup. And any styling that would be the same would be in the style sheet for .tablea Pat G -----Original Message----- From: JFlorian [mailto:cageycat@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, August 25, 2018 1:52 PM To: Freepages Web Sites <freepages-help@rootsweb.com> Subject: [FreeHelp]Re: External CSS and valign="top" Yes, thin, single text cells that can expand if text needs a 2nd line. Pat, Here is an example of a long table -- I haven't even tried to tackle this yet since none of the smaller tables are working rght. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~pawashin//cemetery/ Judy
grrrrr! I used the template and only added your 4-col table. It looked fine. I thought I'd be lazy and just add the tablea tag <...table class="tablea"> to replace that line in the original. It wasn't perfect. Cleaned up the html more and it's getting better. I'll try this for the other monsters. Thank you. Judy
Pat, Should I leave or remove the cell widths on the tables where I use tablea ? J
If you want to cells to be a certain width, then you need to leave them or add a col group with the widths specified. pat -----Original Message----- From: JFlorian [mailto:cageycat@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, August 25, 2018 4:20 PM To: Freepages Web Sites <freepages-help@rootsweb.com> Subject: [FreeHelp]Re: External CSS and valign="top" Pat, Should I leave or remove the cell widths on the tables where I use tablea ? Not sure how well this works as the table width is specified in percentage and the cells in pixels. And I assume this will reside inside a container with a specified width. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/judy-cemetery-table.html Barry is better at css than I am but just cleaning the tables themselves is a massive job. Been there done that on another site but that was many years ago.
