Why is >that address so different from the freepages address? By "county site", do you mean a site for a USGenWeb Project county? Those were set up on the WWW server with account IDs of XXcounty where XX equaled the postal code for the state, followed by the first six letters of the county name. The URL of the WWW server is www.rootsweb.ancestry.com When the idea of free web space for individual genealogy accounts was first floated, it was decided that users would like to have unique URLs available for use for different areas of their research. So the Freepages server was configured to symlink directories within an individual account to a unique URL for each directory. Thus, http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~userID/genealogy_html/ is symlinked to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~userID/ If you use the history_html or alumni_html directories for uploading files, those directories can be reached using their respective symlinked (and distinctive) URLs.
