What is all this mush about password protecting your site on the internet. I thought that as genealogists we were here to help one another. If people don't want information stolen, don't put it on the internet, simple. For every gate one human builds there will be a dozen others who will find a way around it. I didn't think we could password protect a site on freepages. I, too, believe in sharing. I also believe putting your info on the internet is a great way of finding out the "stuff" that you have that is incorrect. You make a typo and do not notice it. Someone who really knows brings it to your attention and you correct it. If you didn't put "stuff" on the net and make it easy for others to see, you might never fix that error! Freepages sites can NOT be password protected without violating the Freepages agreement that content on Freepages servers be publicly accessible. Also, the site that was referenced as an example of a way to password protect access to a Freepages site contained commercial advertising of items for sale, which also violates the Freepages agreement. Violations of the agreement that all Freepages account holders have digitally signed can result in that individual account being closed. There will always be disagreements about the content and accuracy of "family trees" as displayed on any particular site. But everyone who requests and uses space to display their family tree information on the Freepages server must adhere to the agreement they digitally sign when they request account space on the Freepages servers.
