It creates a different tree. ============= If when you sign in to WorldConnect with your credentials you got when you first created your account, you can indeed and should replace the tree you uploaded previously. Your old tree is then replaced with your new tree. If you have linked from your FreePages site to you tree on WorldConnect, then those links remain intact. They still work. Since I update my four databases fairly often, I find this much easier to work with. Since I also include all documentation in the GEDCOM, any new info is added. I work with my freepages site separatly adding new info, documents, and photos as I find them and have to the time to work with it. This works for me but each of us does what works best for us - no right or wrong way. If on the other hand, you create a new account each time you upload a GEDCOM file, then yes indeed you create a new tree without replacing the old one. Unfortunately this happens more than you would think. All I have to do is look at some of my ancestors and see the same info multiple times with the same name as the owner.
