It does take time for the Search engines to find you. The results they display will be pertinent to what the viewer searches for. And remember, not everyone is going to enter your site through your "front door" or Home Page. So each page should be optimized for the search engines. A good resource is Googles SEO Starter Guide which can be downloaded for free. You will not be able to follow all of their recommendations but it will give you some guidance.
