You may be right that their site was hijacked. BUT the issue remains that malicious bots are 'grabbing' website URLs to put on Link Farms. >From my research today, apparently the nasty-bots can be stopped or slowed down at the server / root level. I was reading about it here: http://en.linuxreviews.org/HOWTO_stop_automated_spam-bots_using_.htaccess Would Randy consider writing a htaccess file for the "root" that allows the good bots such as for indexing, while disallowing the bad harvesting bots? This problem started around Feb 4th (esp on the "family" website). So I bet other freepages webmasters will also be affected at some point. If I wasn't using Google Webmaster Tools to see any Crawl Errors, I never would have known. From what I read, Google can penalize both the "Link Farm" as well as the webs that get linked to the farm. :-/ I don't like Link Farms... I also am annoyed that the links are broken as well. LOL -- I can't fix em! I did call the church headquaters. As well, several of these "Farms" are on servers at the "Host Gator" webhosting company. So I called Host Gator too for what they labeled as "malicious activity" by the websites. Most of the rest of the websites are from Canada or India. :-( Judy On Wed, Feb 16, 2011 at 10:33 AM, Pat Geary <pat@the-gearys.com> wrote: > ============= > > Looks to me like their site has been hacked if I use the site: > islandparkchurch.org > and the listing of sites returned as an example. > > May be wrong but those are my thoughts. > > pat > -- -- WASHINGTON COUNTY PA WEBSITES::: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~florian/ Coordinator of the Washington County PAGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/
