The main reasons i think this case is a bot is because it's affecting numerous websites on the HostGator servers. At least, from the ones I've identified and found their hosting company. Seriously, I wouldn't have noticed the problem except that I've been making a 100% effort to fix each broken link on my sites. Many externals had been broken (they moved sites/servers or re-organized).
