To shorten the file names, unless I have both HAZLETTS and HAZLERS in my tree, I try to use a 3 or 4 letter abbreviation for the surname. The abbreviation doesn't have to be meaningful to anyone but me. I also use capital letters to indicate different parts of the name, so mine might look something like hazSamuel1847.html (Hazlett) buxDarius1808.html (Buxton) gmblRobertV1883.html (Gamble) gmnJosiah1814.html (Gammon) Pat Asher
