    3. Joyce asked: "I have a lot of documents I have downloaded from places like the American State Papers. I've assembled them into continuous documents in Adobe Acrobat 7 pro. There's several of them that won't allow me to make them ocr searchable because the dpi is lower than the required 144 dpi. It there a way to increase the pixels in the document?" The short answer is "No". Presumably, you downloaded the documents' images from one or more websites and the images had been intentionally "optimized" for Web display -- i.e., reduced to the resolution of computer monitors, a typical max of 100 dpi. Think of the missing pixels as information discarded from the original; it's been sent off to the trash dump and isn't there for you. There are some software programs - staples of high-tech crime television - which make fuzzy-logic guesses about what may have been in the missing pixels. -rt_/)
