Vanessa, his AV program is probably noting that the http:// connection is not secure and if s/he uses https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~vstern/genealogy/ instead, the warnings will stop. Pat

    3. I want to make a web version of a large chart 31.5" x 13.5". Across the top of the document are several lines of title stuff [no problem] But underneath is a data filled grid of 77 rows & 25 colums. I want to turn this into web pages that will work with any screen size or aspect ratio. The 25 colums can be thought of as grouped into 4 panels. covering 4 generations, each conaining columns for name, birth date, etc.Ignoring heading and footing rows for the minute we can think of the chart as cosisting of one very tall row for the 1st, generation, 12 data rows for the 2nd generation, 31 data rows for the 3rd generaton & 73 data rows for th 4th generation. And it's aligned such that all the great-grandchidren line up with the appropriate grandparent and all the grandparents line up with the appropriate parent, I was thinking of a hierchical design The initial page would show a grid with 4 colums. The first colum would contain the ancestor couple; the 2nd the names of the 12 chidren, the 3td would contain the names of the 31 children and the forth also would the name of the 31 grand children with the number of their chidren appended. At the next level of the design, there would be a web page for each generation.showing the data that was in that generation's columns. Ratner than have a separate HTML file for each name I thought I could make one page for each generation, with one diision for each person. I figure that I can use HIDE and SHOW, probably with JavaScript in such a way that when you went to that generations page, all the divisions were hidden, except for the one for the person you had clicked on. That way there would be 1 data row per screen, except for generation 4, in which case you would have one data row per child (the max was 9 rows, but usually no more than 3. I hope I've described clearly enough. If make all of the pages responsive so they automatically adjust to the device width, does that sound feasible and friendly enough to smart phone users?

    3. I had to try repeatedly to get a response to the password request.  I just kept trying at different times of day and on different days.  I have more than one site, but finally I got responses for all of them.  Then I looked very carefully at the password rules and made sure I followed all of them. Some didn't work at first, but I checked them again and found typos. Some of them didn't seem to have anything wrong, but still didn't work, so I made up new ones and they worked. With Filezilla it's the same things.  It's extremely hard to get everything right every time. My first problem in getting it set up was simple. I had used "site" in the host name, instead of "sites", which is correct. Simple, but it took me a while to find it. Computers lack intuition. They do only what we tell them. So check for typos. I type out everything in a text file where I can see all the characters. After I check everything, then I copy and paste. That way I don't retype passwords and introduce errors I can't see when they are encrypted. Just don't give up. Keep working on it. It will eventually work. 3. Did you request a new password? Did it meet the requirements? Password rules Passwords must be between 10 and 32 characters long, and must contain at least one uppercase letter, one lower case letter, one number, and at least one of the following special characters: _ ! @ # ( ) Only the listed special characters will be accepted. Note asterisk (*) and ampersand (&) are NOT accepted characters. -----Original Message----- From: Stace Pollard [mailto:stacelea70@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, January 6, 2019 6:32 PM To: Freepages Web Sites <freepages-help@rootsweb.com> Subject: [FreeHelp]Re: Password change successful! yeah, and when it gets to the filezilla it tells me connection error. 1. [FreeHelp]Re: How do I combine 2 tables?
    2. Barry Carlson
    3. Judy, Slightly off the original subject, but while laying out the markup for the table in question, I decided to see if it would be simpler to use an unordered list. The result of both the Table and List markup is at:- http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~bristowe/misc/test/florian/table-v-list.html ... where the result is exactly the same - with a little less markup required for the unordered list. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I copied the list data into a Notepad++ file and used Regular Expressions to generate the required markup; initially for the table and then the unordered list. Taking the table as an example, the most obvious start point is the 6 digit numbers in a column. That means that regex could Find each of those numbers, then Replace can be used to put the required markup either side of each number. Find: ([0-9]{6})  /* find any 6 digit number */ Replace: </td><td>\1</td></tr>  /* \1 equates to the expression within the (parentheses) */ In the case of the unordered List use:- Replace: <span>\1</span> Note:- the Replace dialogue box needs the RegEx radio button checked. The next thing is to Find the first word in each line, then use Replace to place the appropriate markup around it.  If you want to know how; ask. If anyone is actually interested in using this method when cleaning up crappy MSO code, let me know and I'll write something up to help.  It is actually a huge time saver when you get the "hang" of it. 3. No, Ralph. I'm cleaning up and converting the website to Ext. CSS. That means cleaning up all kinds of bad code and bad practices from all the CCs who had the site from the beginning, plus errors I made as a newbie. So most of the tables are, it appears, originally Excel slapped up as tables, with heavy MSO coding that I'm stripping out. Some, like the one I asked about, are 2 tables atop each other, then all of it nested (which isn't needed). Table 1 is a header only. I just didn't know how to combine the 2 tables, to put the header onto what was table 2. Pat G and Barry set me straight for that. Thanks, and good to hear from you.

    3. I don't quite get it. Are you trying to nest a table within a table? Or, add data (i.e., rows) from one table to another table? Different problems. For nesting, place the nested table within a cell of the other. For adding data, just add the new rows (with their cells) before the table's closing tag. You don't need to close the old one and open a new one. -rt_/)
