    3. Thanks to everyone for the advice! I have sent an email to Anne and am confident I'll be able to once again upload changes to my page. I'm not in any hurry, I just want to be able to upload changes occasionally. -----Original Message----- From: Patricia Geary [mailto:pat@the-gearys.com] Sent: Friday, February 8, 2019 5:31 PM To: 'Freepages Web Sites' Subject: [FreeHelp]Re: FileZilla help If your email has changed since you created the account, and you can no longer receive mail at the original email address write to annerootsweb@gmail.com for assistance. Unfortunately, I don't remember the email address I used when I set up the site. It was awhile ago and I'm not sure my current address is the right one. I tried resetting using my current address and one other possibility, but when I hit the Send button it just says Error: followed by the email address I used. I even tried a past address that might be the one I set up with, and I got the same message. Even if it had worked, that address is closed so I wouldn't be able to get the reset. I feel like I'm in an impossible place here! Any suggestions on how I can overcome this? Even if I can somehow figure out what email address is affiliated with my family site (buccella), chances are it's long since been closed.Should I set up a new Rootsweb account? Any suggestions to somehow overcome this would be welcome. 3. Actually looking at the links you sent for arnwags, the correct update is the htm. Our internet is messed up and I am on my phone, so will try to get back and fix them tomorrow. 3. I see you have both html and htm index both of course work http://sites.rootsweb.com/~arnwags/index.html http://sites.rootsweb.com/~arnwags/index.htm and http://sites.rootsweb.com/~arnwags/ I suppose the question is which index url you have "published" anywhere Did you register with google for search indexing? if so does google console say anything? I usually use HTM but of course many like HTML Both yours say last update 8 Feb So you are presumably updating both Your other site is http://sites.rootsweb.com/~arbccpg/index.html So I would stick with html for arnwags and delete the index.HTM from PC and Rootsweb Blessings from Ron Lankshear On Sat, 9 Feb 2019 at 10:10, Wilma Fields <wfields55@hotmail.com> wrote: > Got it apparently. 3. Hi Tony, You may need to do what I did and email Anne of Rootsweb.com, although I am still waiting for a reply to get my link to my ~dnapower FREEPAGES. I expect when it arrives it will have my old email address which I sent to her, my dnapower user name, and a box to input my new Password, which I will have to create when it arrives. The same will apply to you I guess .... but if you do not know your original email address you may have to ask if you can use one of your others, and possibly put in that address so she can consider whether it is OK. After that you will simply have to wait. I was just going to say how long it has been since requesting it and I looked up and saw a new email waiting for me. It let me know it was for my dnapower site and asked for my old email address. It now gives me an hour to receive the password box and input my new password. From memory of having done the last ~ mokurai FREEPAGES. Hope this has the same email address as they were both taken out at the same time in 2002. Anne's email address Tony is annerootsweb@gmail.com . Took me six days from when I first applied. Remember to ask for the use of a new email address and send it with the email to hep facilitate the change over. Kia Ora. Haere, Warren. Then you don't have to worry about loading it on the website every time you make a change. Incidentally, the name "index.html" is used be a lot of website servers to allow viewers to go directly there when they put in a URL that ends in "/" without a file name. The server assumes the home page is index.html (or index.htm, it doesn't make any difference). ********** >But now I have a new one - thanks for your patience! 3. Vicki, All of Office uses proprietary code. While pages made in Word or Excel look okay, they load slowly because of all kinds of mso coding (mso = Microsoft Office). I started doing pages about 2006. I took over websites that had mso coding. Now, I know enough good coding that I can fix those pages. But take it from me--- removing ALL that mso code is sheer drudgery!! Do yourself a favor NOW--- do not use Word or Excel to make pages. It's a bad temptation. Turn to w3.org Ty It (google that) and look at the code they show for a page.... a page with a table... a page with an image. Write on the Lists what you like about your page, with the URL, and ask people here how to do good code. People will help. And it was hard for me at first to understand that the "home" page of a site should be named index.html -- not anything else. Plus, any folder should have its own index.html page, used as a "door" to that folder. Questions? Judy
