Hi, I have made a freepages site, but I can not get all the information that I have on it. I have tried uploading my gedcom file to it, but the Web won't read it. Kind Regards, Jemma Gillon

Much easier to do and all the formatting is taken care of for you. You can then link that part of your site to whatever you choose to use your FreePages space for. Example: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gearyfamily&id=I76 which links back to the narrative part of our site http://www.family-genealogy-online.com/Geary/ More on WOrldConnect http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ pat Pat Geary Working With Rootsweb FreePages Accounts EBook (free) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gearyfamily/rootsweb-freepages-ebook.html

I created 2 test files for the 2 pages, they are: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~folp/museumtourguide/test-index_home_page.html<http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~folp/museumtourguide/test-index_home_page.html> http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~folp/museumtourguide/test-site_index.html<http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~folp/museumtourguide/test-site_index.html> Once the test files display correctly in both browsers, will just copy/paste the code to the originals. I made the edit you suggested on the test-site_index.html page, viewed it in IE9 and my primary, Firefox.....they are now both displaying a left alignment. THANK YOU!! Could I ask you to look at the test page for index_home_page.html? Tried to make the same edit on it, Firefox is still fine, IE9 is still center alignment in the one cell table. Apparently the pages aren't the same or similar...or I flubbed up. Guess by comparing your edit with my original, hopefully can determine what I originally did wrong. I'm sure by current web design standards there are many code errors, but I'm really trying not to use an editor or get bogged down in the various versions of html, css, browsers, etc. If my pages read ok in a reasonably recent version of Firefox and IE, that will have to do. Right now, for this site, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari all seem consistent to each other. Only IE has the alignment problem. Thanks again!! Goodness, what a mega effort on my behalf, thank you SO much! I knew eventually I would encounter an insurmountable conflict with my "basic" html approach, but certainly never guessed it would be with the <center> tag. Obviously I need more practice with the unordered list tags. My only excuse for being so sloppy with the <center> code is, Bob Neslund was a really good friend, his death from last fall has a huge ripple affect on the school's museum effort. The school now has a nice new space for its collection, but where the likes of Bob will be found to be its guardian is - well, very emotional for many. Putting this site tribute together - well, perhaps I should have waited to exhaust my kleenix supply before going "live". Now I will go use the tools you've supplied - thanks, again! Sandra from MN

There are so many knowledgeable folks on this list, really hoping someone can guide me through this. I created this page manually with basic html - until now that has kept me from browser conflicts....but I rarely use unordered lists, maybe that's the glitch. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~folp/museumtourguide I have 2 browsers, Firefox and IE9, but I've looked in browsershots, all the recent versions of major browsers look as intended - that is: the one column table centered on the page should have the text left align. Ideally the heading would be centered, all other text left align, but at this point, will take what I can get. In IE9 and many of the other IE versions, it is centering everything after the last </center> tag which looks really skewed. I've looked for a stray /center tag, can't find. Tried taking the table center align tag out, didn't help - also suprisingly, didn't move the table. The site index using the same page design, has the same problem. That link is: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~folp/museumtourguide/index_site.html Would really appreciate someone looking at the source code to advise what the problem is with IE. Thanks so much in advance, Sandra from MN

In reply to a question I had regarding my RootsWeb website, Pat Asher sent the message below: "1) The Freepages server is Case Sensitive. Your user ID is "ecclesheanue" NOTE it is all lower case. The correct URL for your site is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ecclesheanue/ 2) Your password is also case sensitive. password is not the same as PassWoRd. 3) At PasswordCentral, enter your email address in the box, arteccles@tiscali.co.uk Scroll down to Web Sites and check the Freepages box. Then click the email me my info button. 4) If you are using the FireFTP add-on, your setup should be similar to the directions for Filezilla, WS_FTP, or most other stand-alone FTP clients. The host name (remote server address) is users.freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com If it asks for a remote directory, that will be genealogy_html If it asks for something else that you don't recognize, ask on the list, so the information can be shared with others. Pat Asher" I followed Pat's instructions and received my UserID and password from Password Central. I entered the information into my FTP under "Set up an Account". When I clicked "Connect" I got the message "Unable to make a connection. Please try again". In the "Set up an Account" window where it requests "Host", I entered the URL for my website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ecclesheanue/ It may be that that is not the correct entry. I would be most grateful if you could supply this information. Regards Art Eccles
