    3. Hi Pat. Good catch, but no, I'm not using FileZilla to upload to my other site. John Cardinal provides a mechanism for uploading Second Site output, and I use that. I also (try to) maintain a duplicate Freepages site for backup and for greater exposure. I think I'll download FireFTP again and see if I at least have different problems.:-( Thank you to all for trying.... 3. Sorry I still have not figured out how to easily respond and include original message in a reply - however I have just run into a similar problem in updating my own site, in my case the file uploaded but did not replace the original file and viewing the site only showed the old file. Turned out that in updating the software I use the old one saves as a .HTM file whilst the new one saved as .HTML thus the file was added not replaced and the links did not work. Saving in the old format and then uploading fixed the problem. In win 7 unlike my previous win 2000 the file extensions are not shown so I did not pick up on it till examining the files actually uploaded. This may not be your problem but is one to be aware of when updating an old site! -- From the scenic Klondike Hills, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. 3. I'm using Filezilla on Win 8 and I use the long url for Host (but works ok without ancestry) users.freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com protocol is FTP Transfer Settings Tab and mode is Default - FZ says entering as Passive I don't set Default directory as I also use Misc etc if still problem I'd suggest retype URL or copy/paste from the emails Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/

This site shows it was updated on March 7 2013. Would seem that if it works on one it should work on the other. I have no problem using Filezilla either but I am using WIn 7. pat

    3. Thank you, everyone. I no longer get any error message. Everything proceeds perfectly normally, all queued files transfer, the system disconnects automatically.... but my website still reflects the content that was uploaded on December 7, 2012. And yes, I do refresh my browser and I have checked (and double, triple checked) to ensure I'm following everyone's suggestions. I just can't figure out what the problem is. I was having the same problem with FireFTP, which I had always used on my old computer. I really wonder if Win 8 has some quirk that is causing this. (Thanks for the reassurance, Ron, and I'm glad to know it's working for you.) Try: 1) HOST: users.freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com While there is a permanent redirect in place from rootsweb.com to rootsweb.ancestry.com, some FTP clients get fussy about it. 2) REMOTE DIRECTORY: /genealogy_html Be sure to include the forward slash before the name of the remote directory. 3. Hi Pat, This is not a new site. I've had it for years. My last successful upload was December 7, 2012, so I'm trying now to replace what's there. I do get a view of the current files on the right side of the screen and my new files on the left. The only thing different is that I used to use FireFTP and that I'm now running Windows 8. The content is virtually the same. Thank you for your help.
